Mercedes-Benz Actros Heavy-Duty Truck Launched in Brazil

Mercedes-Benz do Brasil presented the new Actros manufactured in Brazil to the public. The heavy-duty truck uses global technologies and platforms such as the MirrorCam, which replaces the main and wide-angle mirrors and ensures a vast improvement in safety, vehicle handling and aerodynamics. Also, the team in Brazil listened very carefully to their customers and developed market-specific solutions that were then integrated into the Actros.

Mercedes-Benz do Brasil is investing around 600 million euros in the Brazilian commercial vehicle business to 2022. Emphasis is placed on modernising the product range, as the new Actros impressively demonstrates. The investment money is also going into digital services and into the two largest production sites in São Bernardo do Campo and Juiz de Fora.

Mercedes-Benz Vans Offers Numerous Digital Solutions for Efficient Transport

Mercedes-Benz Vans launched the future initiative adVANce three years ago. With it, the company consistently focuses on new, rapidly changing customer needs. “Increasing transport requirements must be covered faster, more efficient and more environmentally friendly in the future. In addition to our products, we have therefore created digital services for and with our customers and are constantly working on forward-looking innovations”, says Marcus Breitschwerdt, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans. At an OpenHouse event in Stuttgart Wangen, Mercedes-Benz Vans has recently provided insights into current solutions and their further development. The brand with the star presented four selected digital solutions and their added value for different industries: Mercedes PRO, In-Van Delivery & Return, the so-called On Board Logic Unit and VAN2SHARE.

In June 2018, Mercedes PRO connect the digital platform for connected fleets was a highlight of the presentation of the third Mercedes-Benz Sprinter generation. Since then, fleets benefit from a steadily growing range of digital fleet services as well as from expanding to other models. The Mercedes PRO adapter now allows integration into the system world of Mercedes PRO even for older models.

Mercedes PRO is the Mercedes-Benz Vans brand for all services, solutions and digital offers for the daily business. As an offer for vehicle fleets, Mercedes PRO connect optimizes communication between fleet managers, vehicles and drivers. The networking solution allows online control of orders and vehicle information such as location, fuel level or maintenance intervals in a near real-time query. Their benefits range from minimized downtime through predictive maintenance and repair management to clearly presented data for business analysis. Fleet operators from small businesses to major customers benefit from the web-based service. In addition to the Sprinter, Mercedes PRO connect is now also available for Vito and eVito.

STUTTGART (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Autobouwer Daimler heeft zijn omzet en winst in het derde kwartaal verbeterd. Het Duitse concern, dat al enige tijd last heeft van moeilijke marktomstandigheden, profiteerde vooral van goede verkopen van zijn dochterbedrijf Mercedes-Benz. Ook busjes vonden gretig aftrek.

De totale omzet steeg, ondanks de handelsoorlog, de brexitonzekerheid, een tanende vraag in China en overige veranderingen in de automarkt, van 40,2 miljard naar 43,3 miljard euro. Onder de streep resteerde ruim 1,8 miljard euro. Dat was een jaar eerder in dezelfde periode nog wat minder dan 1,8 miljard euro.

Mercedes zag de verkopen met 8 procent stijgen. Dat ging wel enigszins ten koste van de winstmarge die slonk van 6,3 procent naar 6 procent. Dailmer gaf dit jaar al twee keer een winstalarm en is bezig met een plan om de resultaten te verbeteren. De onderneming verlaagde verder zijn omzetverwachting voor de vrachtwagendivisie.

Daimler Mobility Launches First Series-Produced Leasing Product for Trucks

The industry's first "pay-as-you-drive" leasing financing will be used for trucks in the USA from 2020. As part of the North American Commercial Vehicle Show, Daimler Truck Financial, part of the business field of Daimler Mobility, presents the telematics based financing option "Dynamic Lease" for the first time. Dynamic Lease enables customers to adjust the leasing rates to the actual use of the vehicle. The first vehicle to be launched with this technology in the first quarter of 2020 will be the market-leading heavy duty truck Freightliner Cascadia.

Mr Franz Reiner CEO of Daimler Mobility AG said that "With the increasing networking of our vehicles, we can also meet our customers' desire for more flexibility and transparency with products such as Dynamic Lease. For our truck customers, the dynamic control of their leasing tariffs on the basis of kilometers actually driven means additional financial flexibility for their fleet planning."

With traditional leasing, the customer forecasts the mileage of the truck for the coming years before signing the contract. If the customer exceeds the mileage, an additional payment has to be made so far. With Dynamic Lease, customers are billed only for the kilometers actually driven, in addition to the standard contractual basic fee. A customer's leasing package is linked to a serial number for each truck. With the customer's consent, data on the total mileage of this truck is automatically transmitted to Daimler Truck Financial via connectivity systems. This enables the vehicle-specific rate to be calculated for the customer on a monthly basis.

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) Bank of America Merrill Lynch heeft dinsdag het koersdoel voor Daimler verhoogd van 55,00 naar 58,00 euro bij een ongewijzigd koopadvies.

In het algemeen voldeden de derde kwartaalresultaten nog niet aan de verwachtingen, aldus de Amerikaanse bank, maar de structurele veranderingen zouden in de komende jaren volgens BofAML tot een verbetering van de vrije kasstroom moeten leiden, waardoor het koersdoel licht opwaarts bijgesteld werd.

BofAML heeft zijn model aangepast om de toenemende tegenwind van de elektrische voertuigen en de emissiekosten te berekenen. Daarmee verlaagden de analisten hun taxaties voor de EBIT van Mercedes-Benz met 8 en 15 procent voor 2020 en 2021. De marge van de luxe automerk werd tot 5,0 procent verlaagd voor 2020.

Verder meldt BofAML dat het nieuwe management van Daimler de toekomstige strategie op 14 november zal presenteren.

Volgens de Amerikaanse bank zullen vier discussiepunten de agenda domineren. Ten eerste de plannen voor kostenbesparing/efficiëntieverbeteringen. Ten tweede de mogelijke desinvesteringen van niet-kernportefeuilles. Ten derde de plannen voor elektrische voertuigen met het stappenplan om de CO2-emissiedoelstellingen voor 2020 en 2021 te halen en ten vierde de toekomstige investeringen en R&D in het licht van de cyclische en structurele uitdagingen.

BofAML verwacht dat het management een lange lijst van potentiële structurele hervormingen voor de onderneming heeft.

Het aandeel Daimler noteerde dinsdagmiddag 0,5 procent lager op 52,89 euro.

Mercedes-Benz Opens Immendingen Test & Technology Center

The Test and Technology Center Immendingen was officially opened in September 2018 after a construction time of around three and a half years. Immendingen is located in Baden-Württemberg, 130 kilometres to the south of Stuttgart and 40 kilometres to the north of Radolfzell on Lake Constance. Immendingen has a key role in the development of the mobility of the future: this is where Mercedes-Benz Cars is consolidating its worldwide vehicle testing, including the further development of alternative drives such as hybrids and electric vehicles under the product and technology brand EQ. Future assistance systems and automated driving functions are also tested here.

Mercedes-Benz eActros Electric Truck Successfully Tested

The Mercedes-Benz eActros all-electric truck has been successfully undergoing tough real-world trials with customers for over a year now. As part of the eActros "innovation fleet", in the fall of 2018 Mercedes-Benz Trucks began to hand over a total of ten 18- and 25-tonne trucks to customers in Germany and Switzerland for testing under real-world conditions. The evaluation of tens of thousands of kilometers driven by customers as well as a close exchange with drivers, dispatchers and fleet managers have enabled the experts at Mercedes-Benz Trucks to gain numerous findings. These flow directly into the further development of the eActros toward series production, which is due to commence in 2021. Overall, the customer feedback and test results demonstrate that, with the Mercedes-Benz eActros, heavy-duty short-radius distribution is already possible with local zero emissions and quiet operation.

This week at a customer event in Wörth on Rhine, Mercedes-Benz Trucks presented a progress report on the "innovation fleet". In the next step, some ten further customers will each take delivery of a first-phase eActros for further trials of around one year's duration.

'Daimler schrapt 1000 managementbanen'

STUTTGART (AFN) - Autofabrikant Daimler schrapt ruim duizend managementfuncties. Dat schrijft de Duitse krant Süddeutsche Zeitung. Ook zouden alle werknemers in Duitsland door topman Ola Källenius zijn gevraagd om af te zien van een loonsverhoging.

De plannen maken deel uit van een kostenbesparingsslag bij Daimler. De maker van onder meer auto's van Mercedes-Benz en Smart heeft last van de afnemende vraag naar nieuwe auto's. Ook is veel geld nodig voor de overstap naar elektrisch rijden.

De vakbonden en werknemersvertegenwoordigers zijn volgens de krant boos over de plannen.

(ABM FN) Daimler wil flink bezuinigen, wat ten koste zal gaan van banen. Dit maakte de Duitse autobouwer donderdag bekend bij aanvang van een beleggersdag.

In 2020 wil Daimler meer dan 1 miljard euro besparen op zijn personeelskosten. Het management zal met 10 procent worden verkleind.

Dit is volgens CEO Ola Källenius nodig vanwege de nieuw richtlijnen voor uitstoot. Die zal de winst in 2020 en 2021 raken, zo waarschuwde de CEO.

"Om ook in de toekomst succesvol te blijven, moeten we nu in actie komen en onze financiële slagkracht sterk vergroten", zo zei Källenius.

De vrije kasstroom van Daimler moet naar meer dan 10 miljard euro.

Voor 2020 voorziet het bedrijf een omzetgroei van ongeveer 3 procent voor Mercedes-Benz.

Daimler zet mes in organisatie voor slagkracht in transformatie

Autoreus Daimler snijdt in de organisatie om zichzelf klaar te stomen voor de toekomst. De nieuwe topman Ola Källenius ontvouwde zijn plannen donderdag in een treffen met beleggers in Londen. Het aandeel kwam onder druk te staan met een koersverlies van 3%. DAI€51,30-4,08%

De Zweed kondigde een besparing van bijna €1,5 mrd aan in personeelskosten. ‘Om in de toekomst succesvol te zijn, moeten we nu handelen en onze financiële kracht aanzienlijk vergroten.’ De klappen gaan ook in het management vallen. Hoeveel banen precies op het spel staan wilde Daimler niet zeggen. De ondernemingsraad verwacht dat 10% van de managementfuncties geschrapt zal worden, wat neer zou komen op 1100 banen.

Onder druk van de politiek vinden de grote Duitse autobedrijven zichzelf opnieuw uit. In hoog tempo voeren Volkswagen, BMW en Mercedes de productie van elektrische en hybride voertuigen op. ‘Als de Duitse economie en exportmotor succesvol wil blijven moet de autowereld veranderen’, zei Stephan Weil, lid van de raad van de raad van toezicht van Volkswagen en premier van de deelstaat Nedersaksen eerder deze week op een congres van de Süddeutsche Zeitung in Berlijn.

Marges te laag
Maar Daimler maakt onder de nieuwe ceo na jaren van verkoop-, omzet- en winstrecords relatief zware tijden door. De teruggevallen verkopen, de dieselcrisis, de kosten om de CO2-doelstellingen te bereiken en de grote investeringen in elektrische wagens trekken hun sporen.

Het rendement op het geïnvesteerde vermogen in het segment personenauto’s is volgens Källenius te laag. Hij waarschuwde dat personenwagendochter Mercedes en de Vans (bestelbussen) ondermaats zullen blijven presteren.
In plaats van een beoogde marge van 8 tot 10% procent tot 2021 zal het bedrijf voor de onderdelen genoegen moeten nemen met een rendement van 6% tot 2022. Nog slechter wordt het als de handelsoorlog tussen de Verenigde Staten en China, en brexit escaleren.

Källenius zei dat alle nieuwe Mercedes-wagens en het bedrijfswagenpark in 2039 CO2-neutraal zullen zijn. Eind 2022 moet Daimler tien elektrische modellen beschikbaar hebben onder zijn EQ-merk.

Voortrekker
Volkswagen is op het gebied van elektrisch rijden een voortrekker in Duitsland. Het bedrijf investeert komende jaren meer dan €40 mrd in elektrisch rijden. Ook BMW en Daimler hebben een offensief ingezet, hoewel ze uitgaan van een mix van aandrijvingen inclusief een schone verbrandingsmotor.
Of rijden op accu’s de toekomst is moet overigens nog blijken. Daimler zet niet alleen in op elektrische aandrijvingen, maar ook op waterstof.

Potentiële kopers van elektrische voertuigen stellen zich afwachtend op. De Duitse overheid heeft afgelopen week aangekondigd de subsidies voor elektrische voertuigen stevig te verhogen.

Daimler Trucks Launches Ecosystem for E-Mobility

The E-Mobility Group Daimler Trucks & Buses launches a holistic ecosystem for truck customers for the best possible entry into electric transportation logistics. This includes a comprehensive range of consulting services and the installation of suitable charging infrastructure. The modular range includes not only personal and individual consulting, but also digital applications that make it easier to get started with e-mobility. In a first step, the focus will be on the markets of Europe, North America and Japan. The consulting services are incrementally implemented with first customers.

At the start of the commercial vehicle IAA year 2020, Daimler Trucks will offer a free application with the "eTruck Ready" app, with which customers can determine, which operating profiles and routes are suitable for an e-truck. The smartphone app records the driving routes of a conventional vehicle: It captures speed, acceleration and altitude profile along the route. Important parameters such as the payload and the outside temperature can be added afterwards by fleet managers in an individual web portal. From this data, the program generates the respective range and expected power consumption of a suitable electric truck from the Daimler portfolio. This creates a realistic usage profile for customers.

Paniek bij Mercedes: bedrijf wil minimaal miljard besparen op personeelskosten om dreigende CO2-boete

Mercedes-Benz wil tot 2022 minimaal een miljard euro besparen op salariskosten. Het is een van de maatregelen die wordt genomen nu er een boete dreigt van tussen de acht en tien miljard euro wegens het niet halen van de CO2-uitstootnormen, schrijft persbureau Reuters.

Mercedes-Benz krijgt de gemiddelde CO2-uitstoot van alle modellen in zijn vloot niet omlaag. Sterker nog: vorig jaar is deze juist gestegen - tot 134 gram per kilometer. Een jaar eerder was dat nog 125 gram per kilometer. Volgend jaar moet die waarde op 105 gram zitten. Mercedes-Benz haalt die strengere CO2-uitstootnormen naar alle waarschijnlijkheid niet, zo becijferden analisten.

De belangrijkste reden voor de hogere waarde is de grote vraag naar zware SUV’s. Die zijn steeds vaker uitgerust met benzineslurpende motoren. Auto’s met wat zuinigere dieselmotoren worden moeilijker verkocht in de nasleep van het uitlaatgasschandaal. Het lukt het concern sinds 2016 al niet meer om de CO2-waarden te laten dalen, terwijl dat vanaf 2007 wel jaar op jaar lukte. Bovendien heeft het WLTP-uitlaatgasmeetsysteem, dat in 2018 is geïntroduceerd, geleid tot verhoogde gemeten CO2-niveaus. Doordat de WLTP-test veel strenger is, leidt dit tot hogere gemiddelde waarden.

Mercedes-topman Ola Kallenius, die het roer in mei overnam van Dieter Zetsche, heeft nu als het ware een alarmfase afgekondigd in het bedrijf. Het doel is om de kosten ondanks alles met ruim een vijfde in te perken. Onlangs lekte het plan uit waarin stond dat meer dan 1100 managers worden ontslagen om een spaarpot te creëren waarmee een eventuele boete betaald kan worden. Ook andere sectoren van Daimler moeten de broekriem aanhalen om een netto cashflow van meer dan 10 miljard euro mogelijk te maken.

Daimler Trucks North America inaugurates 10th parts distribution center

Daimler Trucks North America LLC recently held a grand opening for its 10th parts distribution center launched earlier this fall. Located just outside of Phoenix, the 268,000 square-foot facility stocks more than 10,000 parts and serves over 130 DTNA dealers in the Southwest region. The new facility supports DTNA’s long-term vision of elevating the customer experience by enabling DTNA to fulfill 90 percent of all dealer part orders in under 12 hours. With the addition of the Goodyear location, DTNA has invested more than $100 million in its PDC network over the past five years.

Recent PDC openings in Dallas, Des Moines, Indianapolis, and now Goodyear, are enabling DTNA to move ever closer to its goal of 24-hour turnaround for vehicle repairs in an effort to maximize uptime.

Mercedes Benz Marco Polo celebrates 35 Anniversary

The first Marco Polo, a Venetian explorer's name, became the eponym for compact camper vans sporting a three pointed star in 1984. The first Marco Polo was based on the Mercedes-Benz 209 D a van commonly referred to as the Bremer Transporter. Its characteristic features included a short bonnet and Bahamas beige paintwork which, in the 1980s, was seen as an especially modern touch, as too was its equally beige-brown interior. It was powered by the OM 617 engine. Its five cylinders and 88 hp made a top speed of 120 km/h possible. It also delivered 172 Nm of torque. This made for quite a dynamic overall package at the time. With a vehicle width of 1.98 m and a turning circle measuring 10.9 m, the first Marco Polo was easily manoeuvrable, even in city centres. Despite its compact floorplan, the camper van provided a great deal of living comfort, with a double bed in the high roof, a bench seat berth in the rear, swivelling driver and front-passenger seats, as well as a kitchenette with kitchen sink, two gas burners and a fridge. The fridge could either be powered by gas, the 12-volt on-board electrical system, or an external 220-volt electrical connection.

To celebrate this anniversary, Mercedes-Benz is now launching a special model, called ArtVenture, onto the market. The ArtVenture with its aquamarine highlights can soon be ordered for a list price starting at 44,590 euros in Germany.

BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen Fined for Anticompetitive Practices in Purchase of Steel

German competition body Bundeskartellamt has imposed fines totalling around 100 million euros on Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, Daimler AG and Volkswagen AG for anticompetitive practices in the purchase of long steel products. Bundeskartellamt president Mr Andreas Mundt said “Between 2004 and the end of 2013 representatives of BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen regularly met twice a year with steel manufacturers, forging companies and large systems suppliers and exchanged information on uniform surcharges for the purchase of long steel products. Scrap and alloy surcharges account for a substantial part of the purchase prices for long steel. Insofar as the surcharges were no longer negotiated individually with the suppliers as a consequence of these talks, price competition between the companies on these price components was eliminated.”

It said “In their production processes the car manufacturers use many parts which are made from long steel including crankshafts, connecting rods, camshafts, gear wheels and steering rods. These components are either purchased from forging companies or are produced by the car manufacturers themselves in their own forges. For this purpose, long steel is purchased beforehand as a raw material. Long steel is usually sold by the steel manufacturers or forging companies based on a certain price model. This consists of a basic price and scraps and alloy surcharges. During the period of infringement the surcharges, which fluctuated according to amount, accounted on average for approximately a third of the end price of engineering steel, which is the main type of long steel concerned here. The purchase costs of long steel account for less than one percent of the total costs of a car. In contrast to the basic prices, the surcharges were traditionally not negotiated but calculated according to sector-wide uniform formulas and added to the basic price as separate price components. In 2003 and 2004 the steel manufacturers unilaterally made certain changes to the surcharge calculation, in some cases under the threat of refusal to supply. As a reaction to this the discussions between the car and steel manufacturers and forging companies were taken up under the umbrella of the German association for steel and metal processing (. In the talks the representatives of the car manufacturers ensured one another that they would adopt the changes introduced by the steel manufacturers and continue to adhere to the established practice of uniformly calculated price surcharges. They did so at any rate until January 2016.”

It added “The companies acknowledged the facts as established by the Bundeskartellamt and agreed to a settlement. This was taken into account by the Bundeskartellamt when calculating the fines as well as the fact that the car manufacturers had cooperated with the authority throughout the proceeding.”

Mercedes-Benz Celebrates 25 Years of Production in India

As a pioneer of the luxury regional car market, twenty-five years ago, the local production of Mercedes-Benz Cars started and the business unit Mercedes-Benz India was founded in the same year. The second celebration taking place in 2019 is the ten year anniversary of the independent Mercedes-Benz plant in Pune. Since the local assembly of Mercedes-Benz Cars was set-up in Chakan, Pune and Mercedes-Benz India was established, many milestones have been reached and premiers for the assembly have taken place

One major step was realized ten years ago, when Mercedes-Benz Cars opened its first independent plant in Chakan-Pune. Spread over 100 acres, 730 people work at the plant where Mercedes-Benz passenger cars are built today. The plant plays an important role in the global production network of Mercedes-Benz Cars, its local assembly sets standards in many aspects.

Daimler wil dat eind 2022 de personeelskosten met ongeveer 1,4 miljard euro zijn gedaald. Het wil ook het aantal banen in het management wereldwijd met 10 procent verminderen. Dit was in lijn met wat Daimler 14 november van dit jaar reeds meldde tijdens zijn beleggersdag.

Destijds zei CEO Ola Källenius dat de ingrepen nodig waren vanwege de nieuw richtlijnen voor uitstoot. Die zal de winst in 2020 en 2021 raken, zo waarschuwde de CEO.

"Om ook in de toekomst succesvol te blijven, moeten we nu in actie komen en onze financiële slagkracht sterk vergroten", zo zei Källenius.

De autofabrikant liet weten op een aantal punten overeenstemming te hebben bereikt met afgevaardigden van de vakbonden. De baangarantie tot en met 2029 blijft overeind.

Werknemers zal worden aangeboden om hun werkweek in te korten en Daimler zal terughoudend zijn om aflopende contracten voor tijdelijke werknemers in administratieve functies te verlengen.

Eerder deze week liet de Duitse autofabrikant Audi, onderdeel van Volkswagen Groep, weten dat het van plan is tot 9.500 banen te schrappen in Duitsland als onderdeel van een herstructureringsplan.

Electric Buses from Mercedes-Benz for Reutlingen Stadtverkehr

4 purely electrically powered Mercedes-Benz urban buses were handed over to Reutlinger Stadtverkehr on 29 November. At RSV’s completely new and purpose-built electric bus depot, Hermann Fröhlich, Head of the South-West Sales Region at Daimler Buses, and Dr. Jens Heinemann, Head of Private Customers at Daimler Buses Germany, handed over the symbolic key to Mark Hogenmüller, Managing Director of Reutlinger Stadtverkehrsgesellschaft mbH.

Eight years ago already, RSV tested electrically powered buses in practical operations. The transport company can therefore look back on the multifaceted experiences made at the time, and is now putting in place concrete plans for four further vehicles for their number 8 line. In the medium term over the course of the next five years, further electric buses will be procured until the public transport network can be served entirely by emission-free vehicles.

Mercedes Benz Delivers 55,555 Citaro Electric Bus

Mercedes-Benz delivered the 55,555th urban bus of the successful model series Citaro last week. The anniversary bus is an all-electric, locally emission-free eCitaro which will be on the road for the Swedish Bergkvarabuss AB company in the port town of Trelleborg. The anniversary bus is part of an order for ten eCitaro buses for use in the port town of Trelleborg in southern Sweden. It is the second eCitaro order which Bergkvarabuss AB has placed.

Passengers enter the eCitaro via two large doors, both of which are electrically-operated pivot-and-slide doors with folding ramps for passengers with reduced mobility. The fully climate-controlled interior is equipped to a very high standard and includes comfortable InterStar Eco seating for intercity operations, as well as ambient lighting, USB sockets for charging mobile devices and side-wall panelling in needle felt.

The bus company based in Kalmar on southern Sweden’s Baltic coast is active in all manner of bus travel, be that school buses, regular-service lines and inter-city routes. Bergkvarabuss AB operates shuttle buses to cruise ships in port towns. The company has more than 30 locations in Sweden, Denmark and Germany and has a fleet of more than 1000 buses, thus making it the biggest privately-owned bus company in all of Europe.

Mercedes-Benz Actros Truck with Sideguard Assist

Sideguard Assist from Mercedes-Benz, as can be found in the latest Actros, has the ability to detect moving or stationary objects in the monitoring zone along the nearside of the truck. Those objects may include pedestrians, cyclists, road signs or even e-scooters. In such a case, the driver will initially be informed of their presence using visual means. To this end, the MirrorCam display on the co-driver's side will show a yellow triangular warning symbol. If there is a risk of collision, the display then flashes red repeatedly and after two seconds, it lights up red permanently. In addition to this, a warning tone sounds on the co-driver's side at the same time. Sideguard is fully integrated into the vehicle architecture and is available ex factory for numerous model variants of the Actros and Arocs.

It works for both rigid vehicles and entire vehicle combinations up to 18.75 m in length.
