Virtu Financial may get Wells notice from SEC, stock falls 3% after hours
Virtu Financial (NASDAQ:VIRT) stock fell 2.7% after hours on Friday as the financial services provider said it could receive a Wells notice from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The SEC is investigating aspects of Virtu's (VIRT) information access barriers. The company is cooperating with the civil investigation and has engaged in settlement discussions.
If a settlement is not reached, Virtu (VIRT) believes it may receive a Wells Notice alleging violations of securities laws with respect to its information barrier policies in and around January 2018 to April 2019.
"The company believes it would have meritorious defenses in the event of such an action and would plan to assert them," said Virtu (VIRT).
The firm is currently the subject of reviews and investigations by state, federal and foreign regulators, including the SEC and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
These matters may result in disciplinary action and/or a civil or administrative action.
