Turkish firm orders 20 wind turbines
Vestas Italia has received an order for 20 V90-3.0 MW wind turbines for a project in the Catalca region near Istanbul. The order comprises supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines, including a service contract for two years. Delivery is scheduled to begin during the summer of 2007, and the project will be completed during the first half of 2008. The order has been placed by Ertürk Elektrik Üretim Ltd. Sti., a Turkish company owned by the Sanko Group, which is one of the most important industrial players in Turkey. Last year, Sanko Group started to invest in the wind energy sector and Vestas was chosen as the preferred supplier of wind turbines.
Vestas Italia general manager Rainer Karan, said: “This is the second contract that we have received from Sanko. … We look forward to working together with the Sanko Group in developing the wind energy sector in Turkey.

Due to the fast economic growth that has characterized Turkey in recent years, energy consumption has risen at an annual rate of 7-8 percent, according to Eurostat 2005 statistics. At present, thermal power plants mostly generate power production in Turkey and the country is strongly dependent on gas imports.

In order to face this growing demand for energy, there is a need to rearrange the energy mix and to include new energy sources, such as wind. Many Turkish companies, like Sanko are focusing more on the wind energy sector.

Turkey has Europe's second largest wind potential and may develop this into a very significant market. The wind power plant has an estimated annual production of 211,000 MWh, which corresponds to an annual emission saving of more than 115,200 tons of CO2 compared with average EU electricity, according to Vestas officials.

Vestas: Receives another large order from Turkey
COPENHAGEN (Direkt) Vestas has received another large order from Turkey, this time it is a windmill delivery of 30 windmills of the type V90-3,0MW. The recipient of the order is Baki Elektrik Üretim Ltd., a division of Aksa Enerji, and the order includes delivery and installation, and a two-year maintenance commitment.
Delivery will commence in the summer of 2007, and the windmills will be up and running in the spring of 2008.

- Turkey is a fast growing energy market, and a strong dependency on external energy sources (70 per cent) is forcing Turkey to focus on new energy sources such as wind, says Ebbe Funk, President of Vestas Mediterranean A/S in an announcement to the stock exchange.

-At the same time Turkey has a huge unexploited wind potential and we believe that wind energy could play a significant role in differentiating the energy mix and meeting the growing electricity demand in Turkey. This contract represents the largest wind power project in Turkey, and it clearly demonstrates Vestas' undeniable commitment to this market, says Ebbe Funk.

Vestas Wind Systems announces new, $60 million plant in Colorado
WINDSOR, Colo. (AP) - Vestas Wind Systems plans to build its first U.S.-based blade factory in Windsor, employing about 400 people here, the Danish company officially said Tuesday. Total investment in production equipment, land and buildings will be about $60 million, the wind power technology supplier said.
Construction on the 200,000-square-foot plant was scheduled to begin this spring, and production was expected to start early next year.

The plant would be able to make about 1,200 blades per year.

Gov. Bill Ritter has said he wants to establish Colorado as a national leader in renewable energy.

The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, Upstate Colorado Economic Development, the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation and the town of Windsor all encouraged Vestas to put its plant in Colorado.

The company cited the town's access to rail services and a skilled work force as reasons for choosing Windsor.

Vestas has installed more than 31,500 wind turbines in more than 60 countries and employs about 12,000 people worldwide.

Hi,

Wie erachter zit? you tell me....

TOKYO, April 10 (Reuters) - Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (7011.T: Quote, NEWS , Research) said on Tuesday it may make acquisitions or forge alliances to help it make a full-fledged push into the fast-growing European wind power market.

Mitsubishi Heavy, Japan's biggest heavy machinery maker, has a strong presence in the United States, but its wind power operations in Europe are limited to a smaller number of countries such as Portugal.

Mitsubishi Heavy lags behind local rivals in the region including Demark's Vestas (VWS.CO: Quote, Profile , Research), the world's top wind turbine maker, Germany's Siemens (SIEGn.DE: Quote, Profile , Research) and Enercon and Spain's Gamesa.

"We are considering M&As, joint ventures and license agreements as possible ways to ease our entry to the European market," Eitaro Takayama, general manager of Mitsubishi Heavy's wind power system business unit, told a news conference.

World: Wind turbines too costly, price drop on its way
Børsen, 10 Apr 2007,:- Wind turbines have become too expensive as a result of the present high demand according to Steen Stavnsbo, MD of Allco Wind Energy. Stavnsbo claims that the wind turbine producers' profits are too high in relation to the risk and that the high prices have become a problem for the wind power companies. Stavnsbo expects the prices to drop or stagnate in two to five years when the production capacity has been raised.
Allco Wind Energy buys many wind turbines from Danish Vestas that has relatively high prices, but Stavnsbo is pleased with the cooperation because of other aspects such as project completion and operation. The merger of NEG Micon and Vestas is however something that has contributed to the high prices as NEG Micon was Vestas's only real competitor on a global scale according to Stavnsbo. GE, Enercon, Gamesa and Siemens Wind Power are still more or less regional companies whereas Suzlon still is new.
