ABB’s UniPack-G provides safety and reliability for Argentina’s largest electricity distribution company

Argentina’s largest electricity distribution company in Edenor SA has selected ABB to help meet the country’s energy distribution challenges. Headquartered in Buenos Aires, Edenor SA distributes power to approximately 20 percent of the country. With the region facing challenges ranging from increasing energy demands to declining reserve margins, Edenor was looking for a partner to provide its customers with a smart, safe, and efficient distribution solution. ABB’s experts explained the benefits of using the UniPack-G Compact Secondary Substation, including high safety and reliability, along with ease of maintenance and installation. Ultimately, the customer chose to use the UniPack-G with its glass reinforced polyester enclosure to aid the distribution of auxiliary energy to high- and medium-voltage substations.

By using ABB’s patented GRP material for the enclosure in the UniPack-G CSS, all of the equipment within was protected by a housing that has the strength and durability of concrete with the lightweight characteristics of steel. Its internal components have a prolonged lifespan, due to the strong thermal characteristics of the UniPack-G enclosure. Additionally, it was lightweight enough to be easily transported.

The IEC 62271-202 classified solution also introduced high-end thermal and mechanical properties while assuring safety for personnel and the general public in the event of an internal arc.

The UniPack-G is installed in part of the Federal Capital and Buenos Aires surroundings and furthermore could be used on future projects. It is equipped with UniSec air-insulated secondary switchgear.
