Nabeursbericht. Ben benieuwd naar maandagmorgen.

DEFINITIVE FEASIBILITY STUDY CONFIRMS NAL VALUE WITH A$2.2B NPV
wcsecure.weblink.com.au/pdf/SYA/02654...

Highlights
- Definitive feasibility study estimates A$2.2B (C$2B) (C$1 = A$1.11) pre-tax net present value (NPV) (8% discount) for spodumene concentrate produced from combined North American Lithium (NAL) and Authier Lithium Project, demonstrating Abitibi lithium hub’s long-term financial and technical viability
- Revisions to mineral resources and ore reserves improved head grade, recovery and total production, driving enhanced NPV compared with 2022 Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) outcomes
- Production target increased to life-of-mine (LOM) average 190,000t annual concentrate production, supporting after-tax IRR of 2,545%; total net revenue of around A$7.6B and project EBITDA of A$3.7B; NAL production capacity of 226,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) for next four years until start of downstream operations
- Low-risk operation set to become leading North American source of hard rock lithium production, powering North America’s battery and EV revolution.

En dan moeten de officiële cijfers van de andere hub Moblan nog komen. :) Ik verwacht deze ook nog deze maand.

Lake Resources & Lilac Solutions announce
achievement of major milestone
for Project Kachi

Argentina lithium development project successfully produces 2,500kg of lithium carbonate with minimal environmental impact; unlocks commercial development

Clean lithium developer Lake Resources NL (ASX:LKE; OTC:LLKKF) and its direct lithium extraction technology partner, Lilac Solutions (“Lilac”), today announced the production of 2,500kg of lithium carbonate equivalents (LCE) at Project Kachi, a world-class lithium pilot plant located in Argentina.

Based on this successful result, Lilac has increased its ownership of the Kachi Project from 10% to 20%. The project is now on track to move from its pilot phase into commercial-scale development, which will make it the first lithium brine project in South America to produce lithium at commercial scale without the use of evaporation ponds for lithium concentration.

The achievement at the Kachi Project represents a historic advancement in lithium production technology. This is the first successful implementation of ion exchange for lithium production in South America, home to most of the world’s lithium brine resources.

The 2,500 kg of LCEs was extracted at Kachi with 80% lithium recovery, 90% plant uptime, 1,000x less land compared with evaporation ponds, and 10x less water compared with conventional aluminium-based absorbents. The results speak for themselves:

Speed to Production: Lake and Lilac commissioned the plant on-site in under a month, more than 10x faster than conventional processes, and immediately began continuous production of lithium chloride;

High Lithium Recoveries: Lake and Lilac are achieving 80% lithium recovery from a brine with 200-300 mg/L of lithium, roughly double the lithium recoveries of most brine production despite having a lithium grade 2x-7x lower;

High Water Efficiency: This technology is extremely water efficient, enabling production of lithium chloride with 10x less water compared to conventional aluminum-based absorbents;

Product Purity: The lithium chloride being produced is low in impurities, enabling efficient production of high-purity lithium carbonate for battery manufacturers. Rejection of boron, a troublesome impurity for brine projects, is greater than 99.9%;

Continuous Operations: The plant has been operating 24/7, with 90% uptime; this is a reliable automated plant designed for scalable manufacturing and operations;

No Evaporation Ponds: Lilac’s ion exchange technology does not require evaporation ponds for brine concentration, unlike other so-called “direct extraction” technologies which rely on evaporation ponds to concentrate the lithium;

Validated Performance: An independent engineer has visited the plant and analyzed more than one hundred samples from across the plant to validate performance and confirm consistency with engineering work.

When fully developed by Lake and Lilac, the Kachi project is expected to produce 50,000 tonnes per annum of battery-grade lithium products.

In a joint statement from Lilac and Lake, the company CEOs commented: “Today’s announcement marks a new era in scalable lithium production. Lithium is a cornerstone of the energy transition – but limitations in production technology have led to increased costs, scarcity, and extreme price volatility.

"Today, we’ve proven that it is possible to produce high-purity lithium faster and without evaporation ponds – all while protecting surrounding communities and ecosystems. We are grateful for the strong partnership between our companies in developing this project, and we look forward to our continued success as we chart a new path in lithium production.”

Sayona Mining Limited has lodged the following announcement with the ASX:
"Moblan Boosted By Significant Increase In Lithium Resource"

Highlights

• Major resource expansion for Sayona’s Moblan Lithium Project, with Measured, Indicated and Inferred Resource of 51.4 million tonnes @ 1.31% Li2O representing one of North America’s single largest lithium resources (sensitivity analysis at 0.55% Li2O cut-off grade)

• Flexibility for higher tonnage production, with estimated Measured, Indicated and Inferred Resource of 70.9 million tonnes @ 1.15% Li2O (0.25% Li2O cut-off grade)

• Over 60,000m of planned drilling anticipated to further expand size and grade of project, with added potential from recently acquired adjacent Troilus claims.

North American lithium producer Sayona Mining Limited (ASX:SYA; OTCQB:SYAXF) has significantly expanded its Canadian lithium resource base, with an initial JORC Mineral Resource estimate for its Moblan Lithium Project (SYA 60%; SOQUEM Inc 40%), including maiden resources for the South dyke discovery, highlighting the potential for its northern lithium hub in Québec’s highly prospective Eeyou Istchee James Bay region.

Since acquiring Moblan in October 2021 in partnership with SOQUEM (a wholly owned subsidiary of Investissement Québec), approximately 37,700 metres of diamond core drilling has been conducted at the project. Sayona has now estimated a total JORC Measured, Indicated and Inferred Mineral Resource of 70.9 million tonnes @ 1.15% Li2O (0.25% Li2O cut-off grade) which represents one of North America’s single largest lithium resources.

This includes higher grade tonnage opportunities with Measured, Indicated and Inferred Resource of 51.4 million tonnes @ 1.31% Li2O (0.55% Li2O cut-off grade in the sensitivity analysis). Sayona aims to further enhance the size and grade of this resource through additional drilling, with 60,000m of extra drilling planned at Moblan.

Opportunities exist to expand and build the Mineral Resources proximal to the known Moblan and Moleon deposits, where exploration has indicated that lithium mineralisation may extend to the north, northeast and at depth. Additional diamond drilling could potentially upgrade some of the Inferred mineral resources to the Indicated category and identify additional mineral resources down-plunge and in the vicinity of the currently identified mineralisation, including extra drilling between the Main/Inter and Moleon dyke groups.

Sayona’s acquisition of lithium claims from Troilus Gold Corp. (TSX:TLG) (refer ASX release dated 17 November 2022), located adjacent to Moblan, offers further potential for eastwards extensions of the Moblan mineralisation, as well as regional targets in the emerging lithium district. The Moblan properties remain largely unexplored outside known mineralised zones.

Meanwhile, Sayona is also advancing required characterisation works and studies including geomechanical characterisation (rock mechanics for pit design), geotechnical studies (soils), mine design, optimisation and scheduling, metallurgical testing, studies and design, environmental characterisation, infrastructure and power requirements, as it progresses Moblan’s upcoming feasibility study. This includes the necessary permitting and environmental studies, which are progressing in line with regulatory requirements.
Sayona is committed to engaging local communities as the project progresses, including First Nations and other local community members, consistent with its proactive stakeholder engagement approach.

Sayona’s Managing Director, Brett Lynch, welcomed the latest expansion of the Company’s North American lithium resource base.

“Speed and tonnes are crucial and with our North American Lithium operation in production, we are now bringing significant added resources to the market. Moblan now represents one of the single largest lithium resources in North America, justifying our move to fast-track a major drilling program that has delivered a resource within just a year of acquisition,” Mr Lynch said.

“Sayona already has the leading advanced lithium resource base in North America and this latest expansion further entrenches our competitive advantage, particularly given our projects’ favourable access to infrastructure, market proximity and availability of low-cost, sustainable hydropower.

“Together with our established Abitibi lithium hub in the south, Sayona has quickly developed two emerging centres of lithium production amid surging demand from North America’s EV and battery revolution. As we progress these projects from spodumene concentrate production towards downstream processing, the significance of these assets will only increase as the market scrambles for supply.”

NB: Moblan had 12mt before the 37,000 meter campaign so we actually found 58 new metric tons. This only represents 38% of the scheduled 97,000 drill campaign. Some quick math says 152mt total from drilling plus the 12mt that was there... for a 164mt total.

Europe and the US look to boost their lithium independence

As electric car sales grow, demand for lithium, a key component in EV batteries, has surged. China controls about 60 per cent of global lithium processing, through its vast network of refineries. As the FT’s Harry Dempsey reports, Europe and the US are both making moves to loosen China’s grip on the lithium supply chain, but it won’t be easy

Lithium Prices Could Start To Rebound Soon
The freefall in lithium prices could be about to start reversing soon as demand for EVs and energy storage is expected to pick up from this quarter onwards, analysts say.

The price of lithium in China has crashed since the end of last year amid sluggish demand in the world’s largest EV market. But signs have recently started to emerge that the price decline could end soon.

“Inventory in the supply chain is already at a low level, and with the recovery of downstream demand in the second quarter, lithium prices could stop falling and stabilize,” brokerage Huaan Securities said in a note carried by Bloomberg.

In order to halt the price crash, China's top lithium producers, including Tianqi Lithium and Ganfeng Lithium, reportedly agreed last month to establish a minimum price of 250,000 yuan, or $36,380, per ton of lithium carbonate. Since November, lithium prices have collapsed by more than half, with the drop accelerating in recent weeks. Offers reportedly fell to 260,000 yuan per ton, as Chinese traders raced to dump mounting supplies.

Companies in China’s key lithium-producing hub have also reportedly moved to reduce lithium output following the recent price collapse amid weak demand for EVs, local media reported earlier this month.

In Yichun, the top-producing hub for lithium in China, some unnamed producers – including major ones – have reduced supply, Chinese outlet The Paper reported.

Earlier this year, reports emerged that China had moved to supervise the extraction of lithium from lepidolite, the most abundant lithium-bearing mineral but a secondary source of this metal, in Yichun, often dubbed the ‘Asian Lithium Capital’ because of its huge lithium reserves.

Still, analysts see price increases in the lithium market in the medium and long term, as demand for lithium in the energy transition will only grow.

China accounts for a large part of the global lithium supply and dominates the global lithium-ion battery supply chain.
