20 Jan, 2022, 5:38 am

Leader in cost-effective carbon capture solutions Carbon Clean and leader for optimized resource management Veolia joint venture Veolia Carbon Clean have celebrated its first project milestone. The joint venture's first project milestone is a two-year contract with Tata Steel for the operation and maintenance of the first carbon capture plant for a blast furnace in India. The Jamshedpur steel plant is capturing 5 tonnes of CO2 per day directly from the blast furnace gas and making it available for onsite reuse in a variety of applications. The depleted CO2 gas is then sent back to the gas network with an increased calorific value.

India's first carbon capture plant for a blast furnace was commissioned for Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur steel plant in India by Carbon Clean in September 2021. The modular skid mounted unit captures CO2 directly from the blast furnace gas and makes it available for onsite reuse in a variety of applications. The depleted CO2 gas is then sent back to the gas network with an increased calorific value. The 5 tonnes per day carbon capture plant along with its semi commercial use within the steel value chain, makes the Tata Steel Jamshedpur plant the first-of-its-kind in the world within the steel industry.

Carbon Clean is committed to reducing industrial carbon dioxide emissions and helping India achieve its climate goals through the development of a series of carbon capture and compressed biogas projects. This kind of affordable carbon capture technology will play a significant role in India’s transition to a low carbon energy future. Veolia Carbon Clean will continue to work towards making cost-effective CCUS a reality in India. Recycled CO2 products are now a multibillion-dollar growing market and carbon capture is a trillion-dollar market, according to International Energy Agency estimates. India has pledged to get 50% of its energy from renewable resources and reduce its total projected carbon emissions by one billion tonnes by 2030.

Tenaris Delivers Challenging Coiled Tubing Strings to Alaska

Strategic Research Institute
Published on :
21 Jan, 2022, 4:42 am

Following a calculated manufacturing and logistics execution, Tenaris has successfully produced its largest and most complex coiled tubing string for delivery to Alaska. Following months of preparation, the first string was produced October 2021, with the second following just a few weeks later. Using a new 350-foot long inspection line, the team was able to spool directly outside onto a final foundation, where the 500-ton crane lifted the spools onto the specialty frames for transport.

In February of 2021, the team at Tenaris’s coiled tubing facility in Houston in Texas US, received a call for its most challenging order or two 2.375 inches, 33,000 feet long HT-110 grade strings, with an estimated weight of 85 short tons each. The project would require unique engineering and an out-of-the-box approach to logistics, while racing against the clock, to make sure the string could reach its Alaskan home before roads froze over during the winter season. The string was ordered by a major oil and gas customer with a preference for BlueCoil technology, a heat-treated coiled tubing developed using proprietary steel designs and manufacturing processes.

The massive strings had to be transported to Alaska via road and barge. With the reels themselves too tall to stand vertically on a trailer, the team decided to use a proprietary solution, a patented steel frame, designed by Tenaris engineers that could be raised and lowered on a trailer. The spools then began their 5,000-mile journey from Houston to Alaska.

Through 2021, the team worked to prepare for the production of the string. They developed alternative routing for the production process that eliminated the use of cranes when transferring the string from the mill to the HT line, expanded the steel accumulator by three feet in diameter, and added higher capacity lifting bags to the Air Float used in the process.

OMK Pipes Pass Strength Tests at the Gazprom Transgaz Site

Strategic Research Institute
Published on :
21 Jan, 2022, 4:49 am

Russian pipe maker United Metallurgical Company OMK pipes f for the construction of main gas pipelines with an increased level of pressure in areas of increased seismic activity and permafrost have successfully passed pneumatic tests by Gazprom Transgaz Yekaterinburg at an experimental site in the Chelyabinsk Region in Russia. The new products were developed by specialists from the OMK Engineering and Technology Center together with Gazprom VNIIGAZ. An experimental batch was made at the OMK Vyksa plant in the Nizhny Novgorod region from its own rolled products from K65 steel. OMK pipes are capable of withstanding gas pressures up to 150 atmospheres (standard pipes are designed for pressures up to 120 atmospheres). At the same time, due to the special composition of steel, they have increased deformation resistance, which allows them to maintain integrity during subsidence or swelling of the base. The pipes are designed for operation in areas with unstable soils and seismically hazardous areas.

At the Kopeysk test site, OMK products have successfully passed testing for resistance to avalanche failure, in which the rupture of one pipe leads to the failure of an extended section of the gas pipeline. For the experiment, OMK supplied pipes with a diameter of 1420 mm and a wall thickness of 27.6 mm. They were welded into a 200-meter lash, imitating a real gas pipeline. The ends were closed with power plugs, and air was pumped inside under a pressure of 150 atmospheres and a set of equipment was installed to control pressure, temperature and a number of other parameters. An initiator coil with a shaped charge was placed in the center of the whip to create an initiating crack (compressed air is the main factor causing the destruction of the pipeline).

The tests were successful, fully confirming the high quality of Vyksa pipes and their compliance with the stated requirements.

21 Jan, 2022, 4:52 am

Vancouver Washington based US’s leading manufacturer of water-related infrastructure pipes Northwest Pipe Company is now manufacturing a seismic resilient joint system for steel water transmission pipelines that can be used in conjunction with other pipeline systems. The InfraShield Seismic Resilient Joint System builds upon the proven performance of C200 steel pipe and adds a small projection in the pipe wall that effectively transfers tensile and compression forces associated with seismic events. The patent-pending technology has undergone rigorous testing to simulate performance during seismic, differential settlement, and landslide events, as well as in areas with liquefaction hazards.

Made in the USA with sustainable AWWA-certified steel, InfraShield® offers several advantages over competing seismic joint systems. Its resilient construction maintains watertight integrity and can withstand multiple shocks during and after events, unlike PVC or HPDE pipe. The InfraShield system can be used with other joining systems, and can provide superior performance after an event when installed in a pipeline's geohazard or seismic zones.

InfraShield is designed to provide a substantially lower cost of lifetime ownership compared to other seismic resilient systems that may require special field crew training, installation oversight from the manufacturer, or even overseas delivery. In addition to the ease of installation and reliability, InfraShield delivers joint soundness without perfect trench grading or soil stability.

Founded in 1966, Northwest Pipe Company is a leading manufacturer for water-related infrastructure products. In addition to being the largest manufacturer of engineered steel water pipeline systems in North America, the Company manufactures high-quality precast and reinforced concrete products; water, wastewater, and stormwater equipment; steel casing pipe; bar-wrapped concrete cylinder pipe; and one of the largest offerings of pipeline system joints, fittings, and specialized components.

21 Jan, 2022, 5:03 am

Eurasian Economic Commission has decided to extend for 5 years the anti-dumping duty on casing, tubing and oil pipelines imports into the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union from Ukraine. The Commission reached a conclusion that the lifting of anti-dumping duty entails a threat of dumping imports, which could harm the industry. The decision was made as a result of a repeated anti-dumping investigation launched by the Internal Market Protection Department on February 8, 2021 due to the expiration of the applicable measure.

The investigation was conducted on the basis of requests from Chelyabinsk Pipe Rolling Plant, Pervouralsk Novotrubny Plant, Volzhsky Pipe Plant, Seversky Pipe Plant, Sinarsky Pipe Plant, Taganrogsky Metallurgical Plant, TMK-KPV JSC, Vyksa Metallurgical Plant and TMK-Kaztrubprom LLP.

In June 2011, the EEC imposed the following anti-dumping duties on imports of steel pipes and tubes from Ukraine:

18.9% for casing pipes;

19.9% for tubing pipes;

19.4–37.7% for oil line pipes, depending on producer.

By its Decision No 48 dated 2 June 2016, the EEC has further extended those safeguards until 1 June 2021. In April 2021, the EEC extended the anti-dumping duties for the period of the investigation.

Buy American Steel Bill Moves or Governor Approval in Florida

Strategic Research Institute
Published on :
21 Jan, 2022, 5:05 am

Florida’s House Local Administration and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee unanimously approved a bill by Republican Anthony Rodriguez of Miami. The measure would require taxpayer-funded public works to domestically source iron and steel products. Mr Rodriguez said “This is not about the iron and steel companies. It’s about our taxpayer dollars. It’s about American dollars. And it’s about the safety of our people … the regulations, the safety of the production of this iron that we walk on, we drive on, we live in, which can certainly not be regulated overseas.”

The rule, if passed and signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, would also cover various other governmental entities, including school districts, taxing districts, colleges and universities.

Like its federal precursor, the Buy American Act of 1993, the bill’s restrictions could be waived if the domestic supply of iron and steel is inadequate for a project or if it is of unsatisfactory quality. The bill, which would not mandate rules for private businesses, also would not apply if the use of US iron or steel would increase the total project cost by 20%.

Russian steel maker NLMK Group has increased sales in Q4 o 2021 by 8% QoQ to 4.5 million tonnes on the back of a 16% QoQ increase in production to 4.5 million tonnes. Steel production increased due to higher utilization at the Lipetsk site following repairs to the steelmaking oxygen supply infrastructure in August 2021. Sale of finished products increased by 12% QoQ to 3.1 million tonnes as compared to the same period in 2020. Sale of finished products increased by 18% due to an increase in sales of galvanized and hot-rolled steel. Slower group sales growth relative to production was driven by a 26% QoQ & 16% YoY decrease in semi-finished product shipments to third parties due to higher intragroup slab shipments and lower square billet shipments amid negative profitability in the context of the export duty. Sales in the home markets increased by 14% QoQ to 3.2 million tonnes, up 20% YoY

Steel production in 2021 increased by 10% YoY to 17.4 million tonnes as equipment reached full capacity following the modernization of NLMK's blast-furnace and steelmaking operations, as well as higher output in Long Products Russia and NLMK USA. Sales amounted to 16.8 million tonnes down 4% YoY on the back of the resumption of intra-group deliveries of NLMK slabs to NLMK USA assets to 1.3 million tonnes and lower sales of salable pig iron due to higher steel production, which was partially offset by higher shipments of finished products third parties. Sales in the "home" markets increased by 6% YoY to 11.4 million tonnes due to the growth of deliveries in the US up 27% YoY and Russia up 9% YoY markets.

Export sales declined by 22% YoY to 5.2 million tonnes due to a high base effect in 2020, when shipments were redistributed to external markets due to weak demand in Russia and the US during tight quarantine restrictions.

Updated 44 min geleden
1 uur geleden
in NIEUWS

Steel Authority of India Limited’s Rourkela Steel Plant has won the Best Integrated Steel Plant title under SAIL Corporate Awards for excellence-2021. The award recognizes the remarkable overall performance of RSP in the financial year 2020-21.
