A Tale of Two SINAs

Ads keep adding up at SINA. The Chinese media giant continues to make headway in the fast-growing online advertising market, yet that's not something one can gather by analyzing the company's 11% top-line spurt in its latest quarter.

11%? That's pretty much the same pace as China's economy over the past year, isn't it? However, there is more to that $59.8 million than meets the eye. The company's Web-based ad business soared 40% higher in the three months that ended in June. It now makes up 69% of the total revenues at SINA.

The sandbag comes in the company's mobile services. Things just haven't been the same in that space since governmental crackdowns and tighter control of mobile giants like China Mobile and China Unicom have sucked the life out of third-party mobile leisure providers.

Some companies like KongZhong and TOM Online are still slugging it out in the challenging mobile space, while pioneers like SINA and NetEase.com have turned to online advertising and Internet gaming to get back on the growth track.

Earnings rose nicely, climbing from $0.18 a year ago to $0.25 per share in its latest quarter. Back out stock-based compensation charges and the amortization of intangible assets, and that adjusted figure grows to $0.27 per share. It was on that basis that analysts were expecting a profit of just $0.24 a share.

Investors initially marked down the shares in after-hours trading. The second quarter was impressive, but the company's top-line guidance of $63 million to $65 million for the current quarter finds Wall Street's estimates on the high side.

You may want to approach the dip as a buying opportunity. Ad growth is the real story here. The mobile services dip is a red herring. With SINA positioned well for the no-brainer ad market uptick leading into next year's Olympic Games in Beijing, SINA is in the right place at the right time.

SINA struck a revenue-sharing deal with Google back in June, and it began to see some of the benefits of the arrangement in the second quarter. Still, we'll have to wait another three months until the company's third-quarter report to get a better read on how lucrative the deal actually is.

The potential of Google's proven prowess in search advertising is compelling, but SINA is a company that deserves to be respected on its own. It deserves better than the negative market reaction it's getting, especially when the future of online advertising is so bright.

Lenovo is bezig PC's te verkopen aan 198$ per stuk, dat is nog nooit gebeurt in China, en dat gaat de groei in het vasteland aldaar versterken, Chinezen hebben ook de mogelijkheid om PC's te huren/afbetalen.

ook kunnen zij kaartjes kopen met internetkrediet, zoal we gsmkaartjes hebben om belwaarde op te laden, kunnen zij dat doen met internettoegang.

Vandaag is de start van de komende 12 maanden tot 08.08.2008, want op 8 seconden 8 minuten 8 uur 08.08.2008 beginnen de Olympische Spelen, Sina is er eentje dat daar zwaar van gaat profiteren qua advertentie-inkomsten, met een groei van meer dan 11% is China nu niet meer tegen te houden, mijn gedacht, is dat de komende 12 maanden de beste tijd zal zijn van de economische groei in 10 jaar tijd.

De economische sluizen staan wagenwijd open, technologie staat elke dag opnieuw op zijn hoogtepunt van nieuwe technologieen tot de allerlaatste snufjes, maar internet is en blijft the stuff to be.

Elke Chinees weet dat ie zijn rood boekje mag gebruiken om de haard aan te steken, echter bij zo'n groei hoeven ze daar in de winter waarschijnlijk hun verwarming niet meer aan te zetten.

begint niet goed hé.

maar 't komt wel goed, alles zakt daar is nu niets daan te doen.

Persoonlijk wacht ik nog met bij te kopen, ik zit erin en dan neem ik echt de tijd.

Vandaar dat ik altijd met een kleine positie inspring, om nadien bij terugval zwaarder te kunnen inspelen.

English Premier League and Italian Series A Matches

ik heb er nog één in die categorie : Clearwire (CLWR). Stond als superstock in BB van 3 augustus. Ik heb de cijfers van 6 augustus afgewacht. Verlies hoger dan verwacht en dus koers lager neer gezet. Het verhaal er achter is echter goed en de samenwerking met Sprint belooft veel voor de toekomst. Ik kijk het even aan en stap dan in (USD 26).

Sina Explains Google Partnership

Sina is a huge (and hugely successful) Chinese corporation, and although Google is also quite strong, Google China’s not so fortunate. A new arrangement with Sina could help, however.

“Under the deal Sina will carry Google’s Chinese search service and advertising, and the companies will share the revenue generated,” reports Simon Burns for vnunet.com. But don’t look for money to start pouring in immediately. Actually, even in the future, just keep an eye out for a trickle. “Sina does not expect to see significant revenue from the partnership before the fourth quarter, executives say.”

That doesn’t disappoint Charles Chao, Sina’s CEO and president. “We need to go through a two to three month testing period for AdSense,” he stated. “[T]hey’ll be testing different pages to see the effectiveness in entirely different locations . . . . This is a starting point that’s more like a transitional point for AdSense. The traffic ramp up for the web search will take some time.”

It’s good of Chao to be so patient; several months ago, Google CEO Eric Schmidt displayed a similar willingness to wait for results when discussing Google China and its leader, Kai-Fu Lee. But sooner or later, somebody’s going to expect better things of Google’s Chinese arm.
