One of the reasons China Agriculture companies like GFRE, FEED, and HOGS have been soaring this week is their strong earnings reports... and SEED's 2008 year-end results are due out by the end of this month!
SEED is expected to end the year with revenues between $75 and $80 million and the company is expected to be both profitable and cash-flow positive!
SEED's market cap right now at $2.48 is only $55.84 million when at the end of the last quarter they had $48.79 million in cash!
SEED's revenues right now are coming mostly from their hybrid seed products, but I believe their revenues could potentially multiply with the introduction of new genetically modified organism (GMO) seed products.
The average person in China consumes only 23kg of meat annually compared to the 75kg of meat the average person in more developed nations like the U.S. consumes each year.
Over the next decade, I expect people in China to consume a lot more meat and I believe this gap will close rapidly. It is expected that for every 1% increase in take home pay, the average Chinese family with increase meat consumption by 2%.
As the demand for meat products in China rapidly increases... so will the demand for animal feed. Corn is the main ingredient used for animal feed in China and when Corn is used for animal feed, Phytase is currently used as an additive to breakdown the phytic acid and increase the phosphorus absorption in animals.
SEED's Phytase corn product has the Phytase built into the seed which means animal feed producers will no longer need to purchase phytase and corn separately. By eliminating the need to mix the two ingredients together... imagine all of the money, time, machinery, and labor SEED could save the Agriculture industry in China!
All signs indicate it is not a matter of if the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) will approve SEED's Phytase corn but when. It is expected to be the first product of its type commercialized in the world and the first GMO corn product of any kind approved in China!
The product was developed by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science (CAAS) after 7 years of study. They chose SEED as their partner because of SEED's network of approximately 3,800 first-level distributors and 65,000 second-level distributors and retailers; and SEED's operating facilities in 30 of China’s 32 provinces as well as Beijing.
SEED's potential market for this product in China alone is $200 million annually. Out of SEED's 945 employees, SEED has a 40 person R&D team developing new seeds for rice, cotton, canola, and more!
I believe SEED could become one of the world's largest Agriculture giants of the future and we are discovering it at the ground-floor!
Mvg,
