Russian forces who occupied the Chernobyl nuclear plant stole potentially deadly radioactive substances from research laboratories, Ukraine's State Agency for Managing the Exclusion Zone says.

"Even a small part of this activity is deadly if handled unprofessionally," the agency said.

Russia complains to Turkey over drones sales to Ukraine, Turkish bureaucrat says

Russia has complained to Turkey over its sale of Bayraktar TB2 armed drones to Ukraine, a high level Turkish bureaucrat said on Friday, but added the sales were by a private Turkish company and not state-to-state deals

"Russians are upset and from time to time they are complaining about the drone sales. They used to complain and they are complaining right now," the bureaucrat said at a meeting with foreign media.

"But we have already given the answer ... that these are private companies and these drone purchases had been done before the war as well."

Turkey has forged close ties with Russia in energy, defence and trade, and relies heavily on Russian tourists. The Turkish defence firm Baykar had sold the drones to Kyiv despite Russian objections and signed a deal to co-produce more before the invasion, angering Moscow.

Ja diep triest, maar denk je nu echt dat er iets gaat gebeuren of ze gestraft worden? We/Biden heeft op voorhand gezegd dat we zouden toekijken als Rusland Oekraine binnen zou vallen. Doen we tot op heden braaf. Was natuurlijk de vrijbrief voor Poetje om zijn gang te gaan.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has been widely condemned in many parts of the world, but a network of Facebook groups run by people with obscure motivations would like to change perceptions of the country's leader.

Millions of people have viewed posts committed to portraying President Vladimir Putin as smiling, benevolent and peace-loving.

These are Putin's superfans - and we've been tracking what they do and where they come from.

Big numbers

The BBC has been investigating these huge pro-Putin groups with the help of researchers from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD).

ISD experts identified 10 pro-Putin public groups, boasting names such as Vladimir Putin - Leader of the Free World. The groups have more than 650,000 members between them. Content includes photos and messages praising the Russian leader, written in a number of languages, including English, Russian, Farsi, Arabic and Khmer.

Not only are they popular, but they are very active. Over the past month, researchers counted 16,500 posts, receiving more than 3.6 million interactions.

The overall aim of the groups seems to be to promote Mr Putin as a hero standing up to the West, with overwhelming international support.
The images often show the Russian leader "walking confidently, holding puppies, staring longingly into the camera, saluting troops, and riding an array of wild animals, including bears and lions".

These groups have gained more than 100,000 new members since the start of the invasion on 24 February.

Time bombs dropped by Russian troops near residential houses exploding in Kharkiv

Last night Russian troops remotely dropped time bombs on the city of Kharkiv. The police and rescuers closed off the affected area to start clearing operations.

The relevant statement was made by Suspilne on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Oleksandrivskyi Avenue in Kharkiv has been closed off, between Bohdana Khmelnytskoho Boulevard and Pozharskoho Street. Last night, about 01:00 a.m., Russian troops remotely dropped time bombs there. Bombs have a timer and may explode at any moment. Now rescuers and the police have closed off the quarter and are trying to prevent people from going out to make the area secure and start clearing operations,” the report states.
