Stap voor stap...!!

Although companies such as PayPal have started to allow US consumers to purchase digital goods via Bitcoin, Juniper noted: “The scale of the challenge facing Bitcoin is so great that it will struggle to gain traction beyond a tech-savvy and/or libertarian demographic.”

Instead, the research identified a longer term role for cryptocurrency protocols in the wider payments space. Report author, Dr Windsor Holden, explained: “It is likely that we will see the technologies behind cryptocurrency deployed in areas such as real-time transactional settlement. Ripple Labs is already focusing overwhelming on that approach, and in the medium term we may see a role evolution to this end amongst other cryptocurrency players.”

Tom tie dom...GREAT news!! FED is om!!

The Fed's Unexpectedly Bold Payments Idea
by Kevin Wack and Sarah Todd
FEB 11, 2015 1:09pm ET

The central bank is floating the concept of using the Internet to facilitate the direct clearing of transactions between financial institutions, which would likely diminish its own role in the U.S. payment system.

"I do think there are potential advantages to using a new system like Ripple, where you have distributed Internet processing of the payment," said Elizabeth McQuerry, a payments expert who is a partner at Glenbrook Partners. "It's a very big endeavor to move the entire payment system to that sort of environment," she added.

Top 5 Bitcoin Alternatives You Should Know About
11 February, 2015

When looking at bitcoin alternatives, here are 5 digital currencies we definitely recommend. Each of these has brought something unique to the table and has demonstrated to be successful each in their own way.

Ripple

Ripple (XRP) is now back on the number two spot of the coinmarketcap list. It is the currency of Ripple, the protocol, and is one of the most exciting crypto 2.0 projects of the moment. The protocol has been experiencing an ongoing experimental adoption by established banks and financial institutions, not something many others can claim. In fact, Ripple Labs just made the Fast Company’s 2015 most innovative company list. We foresee the protocol and client evolving into one of the most advanced and refined cryptocurrency experiences available.

Denk dat je daarin gelijk hebt; ze zullen het een nieuw financieel protocol noemen...Jij en ik, en met ons talloze anderen, weten dan dat hiermee Ripple wordt bedoeld!

Google May Introduce Bitcoin on New Payment System
John Weru Maina

Google and Square announced Thursday that they were working on new payment systems that would be able to accept Bitcoin. The move is expected to heat things up in the payments market in general, and with Apple Pay, in particular. Google is currently testing the new payment processing method that will be known as Plaso while Square is working on the hardware terminals.

The Square terminal is in the shape of a tablet that will run the Android system. Currently, Square has a piece of hardware known as the Square Reader that can plug into an iPad. The Square Reader can scan credit cards, and Square had promised in late 2014 that it would add support for end-to-end encryption. The Square Reader is compatible with both iOS and Android.

Google’s move could be a boon to other manufacturers of Android devices. However, the tech giant will need to learn from the mistakes it made with Google Wallet. To date, Google Wallet has so far failed to gain serious traction. It may well be that Plaso will be the needed shot in the arm for Wallet. One of the issues that Plaso will have to wade through carefully is in the use of wireless technology.
Bluetooth and NFC Compared

google appsCurrent reports indicate that Plaso may opt for Bluetooth as a means of wireless communication. This is in contrast to Apple Pay’s decision to use NFC. Both methods, Bluetooth, and NFC have their pros and cons. NFC would be considered to be more secure than Bluetooth when it comes to its limited range. NFC has a maximum range of 4 cm, meaning that a hacker would have to be really close to have any effect.

NFC’s disadvantage becomes apparent when it comes to privacy. When you use your mobile phone to pay for something in a shop, your purchase information is stored. It is possible for anyone to datamine this information and send you products based on your shopping patterns. A merchant would then be able to sell this information to other parties who would then use it to send you junk mail. Bluetooth offers better protection against such privacy concerns since it requires the same numeric code for two devices wishing to connect.
Bluetooth and NFC Could Be Complementary

However for Bitcoin users, it would appear that both systems, Bluetooth, and NFC would be complementary to each other. This is something that Google Plaso will have to consider when they are done with the new product. NFC could be used to retrieve data, which the customer signs for on the phone. After the customer has authorized it by signing, the transaction would then be sent to the point-of-sale terminal through the use of Bluetooth.

Google is yet to release more information on workings of Plaso. However, it would be great if the company has decided that Bitcoin is an idea whose time has come. It would even be greater for Google if they were to develop a product that can be used for the wider global crypto-currency industry, a feat that would catapult the company to the head of the global payments industry.

Ultra Fast Block Chain with New Bitcoin Wallet
P. H. Madore

The Bitcoin Core development team released version 0.1 of its wallet software packages for all platforms this morning. The wallet was made available via the BitTorrent protocol, specifically to better serve regions of the world where Bitcoin.org official servers are either banned or hard to access. Among the goodies bundled in the new release were faster block transfer and a new way of setting transaction fees (details follow).
Faster Block Chain Sync

The new wallet drastically improves the speed of the initial block chain synchronization. This method is called “headers first,” and Bitcoin subreddit user thorjag reported that this is faster than even downloading the block chain via BitTorrent. The official release notes explained it like so:

… we first ask peers for block headers (a total of 27 megabytes, as of December 2014) and validate those. In a second stage, when the headers have been discovered, we download the blocks. However, as we already know about the whole chain in advance, the blocks can be downloaded in parallel from all available peers.

With this improvement came changes to some of the remote procedure calls (debug window commands), as well as the addition of a new one, getchaintips, which “lists all known branches of the block chain, including those we only have headers for.”
Variable and/or Lower Minimum Transaction Fees

Perhaps most important to the protocol is the wallet’s ability to automatically estimate the optimum fee to charge based on the size of the transaction. Using the settings as they are out of the box “will create transactions that confirm quickly,” the release promises.

As you can see from the screenshot below, there are a number of options a user can now toggle to get the most out of their Bitcoin, including “Send as zero-fee transaction if possible.” According to a tooltip in the wallet, this feature “may take longer ” whilst minimum fee transactions run the risk of never actually confirming if blocks do not have space for them.

klinkt goed, enig idee hoe lang het hiermee duurt om een bevestiging te krijgen?

(Dit is trouwens het ripple draadje, er is er ook 1 voor bitcoin... ;-)

Financial Technology Services

Bitcoin
Bitcoin serves as a global, decentralized digital currency, payment network, and public accounting ledger. Bitcoin offers a simple, quick, secure and low cost way to move money or anything of value over the Internet. Bitcoin is currency and payments made for the digital age.

Bitcoin uses peer-to-peer technology to operate with no central authority or banks; managing transactions and the issuing of bitcoins is carried out collectively by the network. Through many of its unique properties, Bitcoin allows exciting uses that could not be covered by any previous payment system.

Ripple
Ripple (like Bitcoin) is both a payment network and digital currency protocol, with a few major enhancements. Ripple is the first open-standard, Internet Protocol (IP)-based technology for banks to clear and settle transactions in real-time via a distributed network.

Banks can use Ripple to make faster payments in more currencies to more markets – all with lower risks and costs! Ripple can serve as basic infrastructure technology for interbank transactions – a neutral utility for financial institutions and systems.

"Gilles Gade, president and CEO of Cross River Bank, saw the compliance issue as an interesting challenge to tackle, rather than a hindrance in adoption. His company will be developing their own set of “very stringent” compliance guidelines that should be ready in the first quarter of 2015. The bank is a transactions bank, so it is adding Ripple as another option for clients rather than replacing its whole system."

inderdaad erg mooi om te zien hoe ze Ripple implementeren als extra payment optie, bijna te makkelijk.

Ondertussen schiet de koers van XRP niet erg op, we zitten weer onder de 0,01 USD..
