Na de Russische annexatie van de Krim in 2014 groeide het Italiaanse staalbedrijf Danieli Group uit tot een speler van formaat in de Russische staalindustrie, de motor van Poetins oorlogsmachine. Zo ook het Nederlandse dochterbedrijf Danieli Corus. Zelfs na de invasie van Oekraïne in 2022 bleef het bedrijf Russische klanten bedienen.

Waar gaat dit artikel over?

Het Nederlandse ingenieursbureau Danieli Corus werkte jaren voor Russische staalproducenten, waaronder Severstal, de leverancier van het staal voor de AK-100 Kalasjnikov. Ook staal voor kruisraketten van het type waarmee Rusland Oekraïense burgerdoelen bestookt is te herleiden naar producenten die jarenlang hebben samengewerkt met het Nederlandse bedrijf.

Danieli Corus werd in 1977 opgericht als onderdeel van Hooghovens. Sinds 2015 is het volledig eigendom van het Italiaanse staalconcern Danieli.

Vanaf 2014 heeft de Danieli Group zich ontwikkeld tot een internationale speler van formaat op de Russische staalmarkt. Sinds de Russische annexatie van de Krim heeft het bedrijf zeker veertien metaalbedrijven bediend.

Waarom is dit belangrijk?

De staalindustrie is van oudsher de motor van het Russische militair industrieel complex. Na de Koude Oorlog was deze industrie sterk verouderd. Kennis en expertise van buitenlandse bedrijven was nodig om de sector te moderniseren en hoogwaardig staal – geschikt voor militair gebruik – te kunnen produceren.

Door hun werkzaamheden voor onder meer Severstal staat Danieli Group sinds de Russische annexatie van de Krim in feite aan het begin van de keten van de Russische militaire productie.

De grootschalige Russische invasie van Oekraïne bleek geen reden om de activiteiten meteen te staken. Het bedrijf maakt zich hiermee mogelijk schuldig aan sanctieovertreding.

Biden Suggests US Troops Will Fight Russians If He Doesn’t Get More Money For Ukraine

“Then we’ll have something that we don’t seek and that we don’t have today: American troops fighting Russian troops, American troops fighting Russian troops if he moves into other parts of NATO,” he added.

“Today’s vote is going to be long remembered.”

Despite Biden’s pleas, Congress blocked the $111 billion aid package, with Republicans linking Ukraine’s funding to border security.

“Extreme Republicans are playing chicken with our national security, holding Ukraine’s funding hostage to their extreme partisan border policies,” Biden said.

“I support real solutions at the border,” Biden added, despite Border Control’s data showing the complete opposite.

“Republicans have to decide if they want a political issue or if they want a solution at the border. Do they really want a solution? It cannot be sustained as it is now,” Biden said.

“Look, I know we have our divisions at home. Let’s get past them. This is critical.”

“Petty, partisan, angry politics can’t get in the way of our responsibilities as a leading nation in the world,” he said.

Biden criticized Republicans for prioritizing partisan politics over national security and urged for unity in addressing critical global issues.

Russian intelligence may receive data from Ukrainian surveillance cameras

Russia's intelligence services may have been receiving video footage from thousands of Ukrainian surveillance cameras installed with a Russian software program, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Schemes project reported on Dec. 7.

Video cameras that use Russian TRASSIR software operate in Ukraine's public and private sectors, and are used by ordinary Ukrainians for personal security purposes. The TRASSIR video surveillance system not only records the movements of people and vehicles, but also recognizes faces and license plates.

A Schemes investigation found that footage from these cameras goes directly to servers in Moscow before its transmitted to consumers' phones or computers. According to Schemes, those servers in Moscow have ties to Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB).

Schemes received a tip from experts in the video surveillance field that TRASSIR cameras were routing video footage to Moscow servers. Investigators then carried out an experiment with analysts from the Computer Forensics Laboratory and the Digital Security Laboratory.

The experiment found that when TRASSIR cameras were connected to the internet, their data was transmitted to Russian servers.

EU calls on China to deal with companies that help Russia evade sanctions

During the EU-China summit on December 7, European Council President Charles Michel called on Chinese leader Xi Jinping to deal with companies involved in the supply of dual-use goods to Russia, which continues its war against Ukraine.

Earlier, the media reported that China, despite its own calls for peace, has been actively increasing its dual-use trade with Russia over the past year, helping Moscow, among other things, to import sanctioned Western technologies.

According to data from Russian, Chinese, and Ukrainian customs, Russia has imported more than $100 million worth of drones from China in 2023, which is thirty times more than Ukraine.

Exports of ceramics to Russia, which are used as a component in body armor, experienced a 69% increase, reaching over $225 million, while exports to Ukraine saw a 61% decrease, amounting to just five million.

One-day companies often carry out imports of Chinese dual-use goods to Russia to conceal trade activities that circumvent sanctions. For example, one of them, Silva, headquartered in Buryatia and established in September 2022, ordered 100,000 bulletproof vests and helmets from Shanghai H.W.

In the case of drones, the Chinese manufacturer, DJI, claims to have severed ties with Russia and “actively discourages the use of its products in hostilities.”

Nevertheless, Politico managed to find an October 2022 contract from the Chinese company Iflight to supply DJI drones through another company in Hong Kong to Russia.

U.S. intelligence reached the same conclusion in a July report, stating that China provided Russia with military and dual-use technologies for use in its war against Ukraine.

The House Intelligence Committee published the report of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).

According to US intelligence, “China provides some dual-use technologies that the Russian military uses to continue the war in Ukraine, despite international sanctions and export controls.”

“Customs data shows that Chinese state-owned defense companies are sending navigation equipment, anti-radar technology, and fighter jet parts to sanctioned Russian state-owned defense companies,” the report says.

Heb mijn verwachting al eerder over de oorlog gegeven en in het kort:
Rusland behoudt de ingenomen gebieden (reeds toegevoegd aan Rusland) en hoe verschrikkelijk ook Oekraïne kan deze uitputtingsslag niet volhouden.
Oekraïne is daarna overgeleverd aan de Russische imperialistische politiek en ziel.
In dat m.i realistische scenario zal Rusland het gezag in Oekraïne omverwerpen en een Russisch gezinde regering in Kiev installeren.
Er zal een onderdrukkingspolitiek volgen die zijn weerga niet kent.
De Russische politiek zal het aan het volk verkopen onder ....we hebben Rusland verenigd.
Europa zal tandenknarsend toezien en haar machteloosheid des te sterker voelen.

Geef weer wat ik met afschuw zie gebeuren maar sta daar totaal niet achter.

Ja, ik kan al zeggen dat Rusland op dit moment aan de winnende hand is (want alleen de Russen winnen op dit moment terrein) en ook niet verdreven gaat worden uit Oekraïne.
Een gelijk spel bestaat helemaal niet: het is OF Rusland verdreven ui Oekraïne (en dan heeft Oekraïne gewonnen) OF Rusland is niet verdreven uit Oekraïne (en dan heeft Rusland gewonnen.
Als de situatie blijft zoals die nu is , heeft Rusland dus gewonnen.

Neemt niet weg dat Wedterse politici er alles aan zullen doen om dit fiasco te verhullen in termen als “gelijkspel”

Niet iedereen handelt als Graf Zeppelin, dat de laatste mij demoniseert omdat mijn gedachtegang niet strookt met die van hem maakt de boodschap nog niet minder.

Klopt maar nu doorpakken is cruciaal, iedereen weet dat Putin dit kwantitatief wil winnen maakt niet uit wat het kost, als het westen blijft talmen zijn er straks geen Oekrainers meer die de dan eventueel wel ter beschikking komende middelen kunnen gebruiken terwijl de Russen de tijd krijgen.
Als ze hier uit vergaderd zijn is het wellicht al te laat, de F16 heeft ook veel te lang geduurd.

Helemaal mee eens. Tijd is in het voordeel van Putin.

De enige manier om nu nog genoeg manschappen in Oekraïne te krijgen is massale inzet van Westerse troepen.
Maar ik heb de hoop eigenlijk al opgegeven dat dat gaat gebeuren.

Russians complain about the quality of artillery shells from the DPRK

Artillerymen of the Russian invasion forces complain about the quality of shells supplied by North Korea.

The propaganda Telegram channel reported about the shortcomings of the 152mm artillery shells propellant charges.

The invaders complain that the range of North Korean shells differs from one another.

In this regard, Russian artillerymen decided to test the NDT-3 propellant charges for 152 mm shells.

For this purpose, 5 random North Korean charges with the same markings were selected.

According to the invaders, it turned out that propellant charges do not always have a decopperer in the form of a coil of lead or tin wire, which is designed to remove copper from the gun barrel, that has settled from the leading belt of the projectile.

The charges also have obvious differences in the color of the powders, which indirectly indicates the difference in their combustion.

There are also traces of opening of the sealing caps on some cartridges, which could have led to moisture ingress, which in turn affected the quality of the powder.

In intercepted conversation, Russian soldiers discuss coup, ‘marching together to Russia’

Unrest has emerged among Russian invaders due to the almost complete absence of rotation of soldiers drafted under general mobilization, Ukraine’s HUR Intelligence Main Directorate said on Dec. 8, releasing an audio interception as evidence.

The audio comes from a phone conversation between two Russian soldiers, one of whom ended up in the hospital after being wounded.

The Russians complain that the command of the Russian Armed Forces refuses to grant leave to mobilized soldiers due to a severe shortage of personnel, refusing to issue the necessary documents.
