EXTRACT Resources today said it ended a long hiatus at the top of its management ranks by appointing former Rio Tinto director Jonathan Leslie as its chief executive.
Rio Tinto owns 15.2 per cent of Extract and has been touted as a potential acquirer of the group, or a joint-venture partner at Extract’s Rossing South uranium deposit in Namibia.

Rossing South is only 6km from the Rio Tinto-operated Rossing uranium mine.

Mr Leslie, who was on Rio Tinto's board for nine years, replaces Peter McIntyre, who officially resigned from the company on September 15, 2009.

Japan's Itochu buys 15% of Kalahari Resources

Japanese-based Itochu Corporation said on Friday that it would acquire a 15% stake in Kalahari Minerals, through its Australian subsidiary Nippon Uranium Resources. This would make Itochu the largest shareholder of Kalahari Resources, which, in turn, is the biggest shareholder of Extract Resources. Extract Resources owns 100% of Namibia's new Rossing South uranium deposit, which could host one of the leading uranium mines in the world. The project is currently under a feasibility study for first production in 2013

PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Uranium explorer Aura Energy has received three new permits in the northern Mauritanian uranium field .

The permits cover an area of about 2 850 km2, and increases Aura’s total landholding in this area to about 6 400 km2. The company said in a statement on Tuesday that reconnaissance exploration on one of the permits had discovered visible uranium mineralisation at surface, at two separate locations.

Aura said that it was now planning an extensive programme of geophysical surveying to better define targets in these permit areas, followed by sub-surface testing to identify the source of the uranium radiometric anomalies.

Aura is a uranium explorer with projects in Australia, Sweden and Africa. The company has a major presence in Sweden's Alum Shale province, one of the largest depositories of uranium in the world.

In an alliance with Aim-listed GCM Resources, Aura is exploring in West Afric

More great uranium assays from Rossing South

Extract Resources' infill drilling is providing some more strong uranium assay results on the big Rossing South uranium prospect in Namibia.
Posted: Friday , 21 May 2010

LONDON (Proactive Investors) -

Uranium and copper explorer Kalahari Minerals (AIM: KAH) said Extract Resources (TSX, ASX: EXT) reported further exceptional assay results from the Rossing South uranium deposit at Extract's world-class Husab uranium project in Namibia, which "underlined its enormous potential," with infill drilling returning grades of 2,243 ppm (parts per million) uranium over 73 metres.

Kalahari's subsidiary Kalahari Uranium Limited holds a 40.6% interest in Extract Resources, which owns the rights to the project. Previous estimates have suggested the Rossing South uranium mine could support production of nearly 6,700 tonnes of uranium per annum, which would more than double Namibia's entire annual output and would be significantly larger than the nearby Rossing Mine, currently the third largest uranium in the world, and 68.6% owned by Rio Tinto (LSE:RIO, ASX:RIO).

September ,10,2010

LONDON – Australian uranium explorer Extract Resources said high grade uranium assay results have been returned from newly discovered Zone 5 at Rossing South, one of the world's largest uranium deposits.

One of the drill holes returned an intersection of 29 m of uranium oxide at a high grade of 1 653 parts per million.

"This intersection ranks in the top 2% for metal content within the current Rossing South database, and confirms Zone 5 as a high priority exploration target," the company said.

Early planning for a mining licence application for Rossing South has started and it expects the application to be lodged with Namibian authorities in the fourth quarter.

London-listed Kalahari Minerals has a 41,15% stake in Extract.

The highly prospective Hayes Creek Uranium Project continues to deliver for Thundelarra Exploration (ASX: THX), with two new significant uranium discoveries at previously undrilled prospects.

A platinum-palladium-gold mineralisation has also been identified.

An intersection of; 2 metres at 944ppm U3O8 from 41 metres, from reverse circulation drilling was hit at the Moonraker prospect, which was within strongly oxidised black shales of the Mt Bonnie Formation, which is only 1km north-east and along strike from the Thunderball uranium discovery.

Kalahari Minerals: Extract Resources drilled 72,172 metres at Rössing South in Q4

Kalahari Minerals (LON:KAH) relayed a quarterly report from its 41.12 percent owned associate Extract Resources (TSX:EXT, ASX:EXT).

Extract is developing one of the world’s largest uranium deposits - known as Rössing South - at the Husab project in Namibia, where it is currently running a massive 17 rig drilling programme.

It drilled 72,172 metres in the three months ended 31 December 2010. This took the overall running total to over 570,000 metres. At the moment Extract is focused on ‘Priority 1’ infill drilling at Rössing South’s Zone 1.

It received outstanding chemical assay results in the quarter, which continued to demonstrate the deposit’s high grade uranium mineralisation. It also lodged important permitting documents - an Environmental Impact Assessment and Management Plan - with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.

Kalahari also stepped up its interest in its associate, as it helped raise new capital for Extract, with a new AU$60.9 million share subscription. Extract ended the period with a A$35.3 million cash balance.

ERA 2010 production down 46pc, sales fall

URANIUM miner Energy Resources of Australia's uranium oxide production fell by 46 per cent in 2010 due to lower mill head grade.

ERA says uranium oxide produced was 3793 tonnes for the 12 months to December 31, down from 5,240 tonnes in 2009.

Plant performance produced a record amount of treated ore of 2.4 million tonnes in 2010.

In the December quarter, uranium oxide production was 1,165 tonnes, rising 28 per cent from the September quarter, and two per cent higher than the December quarter in 2009.

ERA says mill head grade rose to 0.27 per cent uranium oxide in the fourth quarter, up 50 per cent from the third quarter 2010.

"After the effects of an above average wet season and geotechnical issues, particularly in the first half of the year, access to higher grade ore was re-established in the December 2010 quarter," ERA said in a statement.

Total sales of uranium oxide fell to 5,026 tonnes in 2010, from 5,497 tonnes in 2009, with the shortfall between production and sales commitments covered by a combination of inventory management, loans and purchases of uranium oxide.

Kalahari Minerals: Extract Resources gets environmental approval for Husab uranium project

Friday, January 28, 2011
Kalahari Minerals (LON:KAH) welcomed the news that its 41.08 percent owned associate Extract Resources (TSX:EXT, ASX:EXT) has received environmental approval to develop one of the world’s largest uranium mines on the Husab mining licence area.

Husab hosts the Rössing South deposit, which is still being explored by 17 rigs. It is currently the fifth largest uranium deposit in the world.

Overnight Extract told investors on the Australian Securities Exchange that its wholly-owned subsidiary Swakop Uranium has now received environmental approval from Namibia's Ministry of Environment and Tourism.

The Husab environmental impact assessment (EIA) and management plan (EMP) for the proposed mining licence area were lodged with the Namibian authorities in late November 2010. Shortly after, the mining licence application was lodged December.

“Obtaining this environmental approval from Namibia's Ministry of Environment and Tourism is another major step in the drive towards production and emphasises both Husab's environmental credentials and the support for its development from the Namibian government,” Kalahari chairman Mark Hohnen said.

“We look forward to the publication of the Definitive Feasibility Study and remain fully supportive of Extract's development plans as well as the regional exploration initiatives that continue to open up new zones of uranium mineralisation which are further boosting the global significance of this project."

A separate environment impact assessment (EIA) is currently underway for some of the mine's infrastructure and public consultation is scheduled in April and May.
