Syria and Siemens ink power station deal

AFP reported that Syria and German engineering giant Siemens inked a USD 419 million contract for the expansion of a power plant north of Damascus.

"The minister of electricity signed with German group Siemens a contract worth EUR 305 million to expand the Nassariya power station in north Damascus. Siemens will work to design, manufacture, supply, install and operate all equipment necessary for the creation of an additional branch of the plant."

The deal comes after the European Union slapped an eighth round of sanctions on the regime of Mr Bashar al Assad president of Syria over its brutal crackdown on protesters.

The EU has already prohibited the delivery of bank notes to the Syrian central bank and banned oil imports and investments in the oil sector. It also imposed an EU travel ban and assets freeze on Assad and his closest associates.

Siemens launches center for metallurgical services in Bahrain

One year on from the announcement that Siemens WLL in Bahrain would establish a service center to facilitate the Middle East's steel and aluminum industry and help to reduce downtime of machines for maintenance and repair, the company has today officially launched the facility based at Bahrain International Investment Park at Salman International City.

The Middle East Service Centre for Metallurgical Services will handle manufacturing and repair of parts for example, cooling panels for steel making furnaces, guides for rolling mills, gear boxes, etc. and will ensure an increase in component lifetime and reduction in costly and time consuming import of spare parts from Europe and South Asia.

This important facility was inaugurated by the Bahrain Minister of Industry and Commerce, His Excellency Dr Hassan Fakhro, who commended highly on Siemens WLL investing in Bahrain its people and its economy.

Mr Marek Szymanek CEO of Siemens WLL in Bahrain said that "From our base in Bahrain, Siemens is in a position to serve our partners faster more economically and efficiently. By and large the market needs a workshop of this type in the region. The Centre is close to a large customer base in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia and being located at Bahrain International Investment Park at Salman International City it offers an attractive location with easy access by air and sea ports nearby. Bahrain also offers the support of setting up and doing business; operates a business-friendly atmosphere and enjoys availability of local manpower.”

Mr Szymanek said that at Siemens we always invest in the training of our employees and Bahrain is no different. In addition, the Bahrain government has announced major investments in several areas, including infrastructure projects. As a major infrastructure solutions company, Siemens is happy to further contribute our expertise and technical strength to support the further development of the country.

Siemens has a successful history in Bahrain dating back to 1976 and a presence in the Middle East of over 150 years. It already operates similar service center facilities in USA, Europe, India and China to serve customers in these markets.

Siemens is committed to the local workforce in countries it operates and for this service center project it aims to have 50% of its employees to be Bahraini nationals. The company is working closely together with Tamkeen, the Bahraini labor fund and the National Institute for Industrial Training to train job seekers and offer on site vocational experience. It will also gradually create jobs for metal experts, during the first 2 to 3 years of operation of which half will be Bahraini.

Siemens gründet Windenergie-Allianz für chinesischen Markt

Siemens (Dow Jones)--Siemens will den chinesischen Windenergiemarkt künftig besser erschließen und hat dafür eine Windenergie-Allianz mit der Shanghai Electric vereinbart. Wie der Münchener DAX-Konzern am Freitag mitteilte, wurden zwei Gemeinschaftsunternehmen gegründet. An beiden Gesellschaften werde Siemens mit 49% die Minderheit halten. Ein Joint Venture werde für die Entwicklung und den Bau, das andere für den Vertrieb zuständig sein.

Siemens hatte Ende 2010 eine Fertigung für Rotorblätter in Shanghai eröffnet. Im Sommer 2011 konnte sich das Unternehmen den ersten Auftrag für einen Offshore-Windpark in China sichern. Das Land verfügt laut Siemens über den größten Windenergiemarkt der Welt.

Siemens worstelt met zwakke economie

Het Duitse Siemens, Europa's grootste engineeringsgroep, heeft in zijn eerste kwartaal een serieuze winstdaling geslikt. Het bedrijf heeft duidelijk last van de crisis. 'Zelfs al wordt het in de tweede jaarhelft beter, om onze jaardoelstellingen te bereiken zal het hard werken worden', aldus topman Peter Löscher.

'De onzekerheid van de aanhoudende schuldencrisis laten sporen achter in de reële economie', zegt Löscher. En dat vertaalt zich in de cijfers.

De nettowinst in het eerste kwartaal van het boekjaar 2011/12 daalde met 27 procent tot 1,36 miljard euro. Daarmee doet de groep het slechter dan verwacht. Ook het aantal nieuwe bestellingen liep terug (over drie maanden met 5 procent tot nog een waarde van 19,81 miljard euro).

Siemens is een van de eerste grote industriële groepen die met cijfers komt over de laatste maanden van 2011. De groep, die 43 procent van haar omzet haalt uit Europa en nog eens 20 procent uit de Verenigde Staten, bouwt ondermeer treinen, energiecentrales, medische apparatuur en machines.

Siemens bevestigt zijn doelstellingen over het hele jaar, maar geeft duidelijk mee dat het in het huidige economische klimaat moeilijker wordt om die te halen.

Der Auftragsbestand erreichte einen neuen Höchststand von 102 Mrd. Euro.

Zo slecht gaat het dus in Bayern niet, maar natuurlijk ondervindt ook Siemens nu een lichte terugslag, t.o.v. eerder nog hogere verwachtingen.
Siemens blijft een prachtbedrijf, maar ik stap er toch niet in omdat ik de Duitse autobouwers nog steeds (een stuk) aantrekkelijker vind, ook vooral die uit Bayern trouwens.

In 2008 gered door de gong.Nu de economie weer begint te slabakken gaan ze het spelletje nog eens herhalen.
Maar de schuldenberg is sedert 2008 dramatisch opgelopen.
Of gaan ze de geldprinters nog eens overwerk laten doen?
Je kan deze kunstmatige economie niet blijven opfokken.
En banken zijn verworden tot zombie's die hun geld bij de ECB stallen.
Een grote rotzooi.

Trouwens wie moet je hier nog geloven.De leugen regeert.

Siemens wins Morocco wind turbine deals

Siemens Energy has secured its first wind turbine orders with a total capacity of 100 MW in Africa for a plant in Morocco.

Nareva Holding and Siemens signed a contract for the delivery of a total of 44 wind turbines for the Haouma and Foum El Oued wind power plants.

The scope of supply includes the delivery, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines as well as a five-year service contract for each project. Both wind power plants are expected to commence commercial operation by summer 2013. Africa is an emerging wind market with Morocco currently being number two in installations.

Mr Felix Ferlemann CEO of the Siemens Wind Power Division said that "These two orders mark Siemens Wind Power´s entry on the African wind market and clearly show that our internationalization strategy is successful."

According to the Global Wind Energy Council, wind power is one of the most promising sectors for renewable energy generation in Morocco. The Moroccan government has set the target of raising the contribution of renewable energy to 20% of national electricity consumption by 2020.

Recently, Siemens announced that it will establish three regional Wind Power Business Units Europe, Middle East and Africa, Americas and Asia as part of a new Wind Power Division. Moreover the company has sales hubs in several countries around the globe.

The Haouma Wind Farm project will be built in Northern Morocco. At 50 MW, Haouma will feature 22 Siemens SWT-2.3-93 wind turbines. Foum El Oued will be built in one of the windiest areas of Morocco in the municipality of Laâyoune, 9 kilometers south east of the port of Laâyoune in Southern Morocco. Also at 50 MW, Foum El Oued will feature 22 SWT-2.3-101 wind turbines.

STUTTGART (dpa-AFX) - Siemens-Chef Peter Löscher sieht in der Energiewende eine große Chance für die deutsche Industrie. Der Ausstieg aus der Atomenergie und der Umbau der Stromversorgung seien zwar eine enorme Herausforderung. Aber: "Die deutsche Energiewende wird ein Innovationsmotor", sagte Löscher der Nachrichtenagentur dpa am Rande einer Siemens-Tagung in Stuttgart. Und vor allem sein Unternehmen werde davon profitieren. "Siemens (Siemens Aktie) wird einer der ganz großen Gewinner der Energiewende sein."

Zuletzt hatte der Konzern allerdings ausgerechnet bei den erneuerbaren Energien einen Dämpfer verkraften müssen, im ersten Quartal des Geschäftsjahres teilten sich Solar- und Windenergie einen Verlust von 48 Millionen Euro. Dies soll schnell wieder besser werden. "Wir erwarten in den nächsten Quartalen eine deutliche Verbesserung", sagte er. Siemens wins USD 1 billion Saudi power plant deal

Siemens has won a major order worth more than USD 1 billion for combined cycle power plant in Saudi Arabia. With an installed capacity of 4 GW IPP Qurayyah will be one of the world’s largest CCPPs.

Siemens will supply key components for the plant which will supply enough electrical energy to meet approximately one tenth of the country’s current power demand for its 28 million inhabitants. Commissioning of the total of six blocks is scheduled for 2014.

The project consortium is led by the Saudi company ACWA Power with Samsung C&T and Mena fund as further members. Siemens received the order from Samsung C&T which also acts as EPC contractor.

In addition, a long term service and maintenance agreement for the power plant was signed with Hajr Project Company. The order value for Siemens is over USD 1 billion. The plant which will be commissioned in 2014 will be operated by Hajr as an Independent Power Producer.

Mr Roland Fischer CEO of the Fossil Power Generation Division of Siemens Energy said that “For the Qurayyah power plant in Saudi Arabia we’re supplying advanced combined cycle equipment from our global manufacturing network.”

The company will supply the components from its recently inaugurated US gas turbine production plant in Charlotte, North Carolina and also from its manufacturing plants in Berlin and Muelheim, Germany.

Siemens’ scope of supply encompasses a total of 12 SGT6-5000F gas turbines, 18 generators of the SGEN6-1000A series and six SST6-4000 steam turbines together with the associated electrical systems.

Siemens Energy will also provide the long-term maintenance for the major equipment in the IPP Qurayyah power plant. With its portfolio of customizable and proven energy service solutions, Siemens’ full scope maintenance and service contract will help to ensure the long-term reliability and optimum performance of the plant as well as provide predictable maintenance costs.

Saudi Arabia is an attractive power generation market. The country not only has the world’s largest oil reserves but also the fourth largest natural gas deposits. In this decade it is anticipated that Saudi Arabia’s population will increase from 28 million to 40 million. To meet the estimated annual rise in power demand of 8% the installed power generation capacity will have to double within 10 years. The country’s fast growing power demand is being increasingly met with the aid of advanced, high efficiency combined cycle power plants.

Siemens: geen plannen voor fusie ThyssenKrupp

MUNCHEN (AFN) - Er zijn geen plannen voor een verbinding van het Duitse technologieconcern Siemens met het Duitse staal- en industrieconcern ThyssenKrupp. Dat liet financieel directeur Joe Kaeser van Siemens maandag weten aan de Duitse zakenkrant Handelsblatt.

De speculaties over een samengaan van ThyssenKrupp en Siemens doen al maanden de ronde. Het Duitse zakenblad Wirtschaftswoche schreef maandag in een uitgebreid artikel dat ThyssenKrupp na de beoogde omvorming van staalproducent tot technologieconcern op veel terreinen een goede partner voor Siemens zou kunnen zijn.

Volgens Kaeser is er echter nog nooit gediscussieerd over een mogelijke samenvoeging of toenadering tussen Siemens en ThyssenKrupp. ,,Ik geloof dat ThyssenKrupp een van de weinige namen is waarover we nog nooit hebben gepraat als overnamedoelwit.''

'Speculaties'

Topman Peter Löscher van Siemens liet eerder weten op de hoogte te zijn van de geruchten over een samengaan van delen van beide bedrijven. ,,Dat zijn echter speculaties, die geen zakelijke fundamenten hebben en daarmee elke concrete basis ontberen.''

Er zijn wel veel aanknopingspunten in het hoogste management van de twee Duitse bedrijven. Zo is ThyssenKrupp-topman Heinrich Hiesinger afkomstig van de industriedivisie van Siemens en is Gerhard Cromme president-commissaris bij beide ondernemingen.

Volgens Wirtschaftswoche zouden de technische divisies van ThyssenKrupp zoals de liftdivisie en de installatietak goed bij Siemens kunnen passen. Bovendien kan Siemens op die manier invulling kunnen geven aan zijn doelstelling om de omzet te verhogen tot 100 miljard euro, zonder dat daar grote overnames voor nodig zijn.

Siemens 'preferred supplier' windturbines Nederlands windpark

AMSTERDAM (Dow Jones)--Industrieel conglomeraat Siemens ag (SIE.XE) is door Typhoon Offshore bv, een Nederlands bedrijf gespecialiseerd in duurzame energie, uitgekozen voor de levering van de verbeterde versie van de Siemens SWT-3.6 windturbine, meldt Typhoon Offshore dinsdag.

Volgens marktvolgens heeft de mogelijke opdracht voor Siemens een waarde van circa EUR900 miljoen.

Van een definitief investeringsbesluit is echter nog geen sprake. Siemens is door het Nederlandse concern aangewezen als de preferred supplier van windturbines in de realisatie van het project Gemini. Gemini wordt het grootste Nederlandse zee-windpark in de Noordzee, 55 kilometer boven Schiermonnikoog.

"Onze keuze voor de turbine van Siemens betekent dat er in het gebied 150 fundaties - voor de windturbines van het concern - komen, meldt Typhoon Offshore.

Siemens to modernize NatSteel finger shaft EAF in Singapore

Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from NatSteel Holdings Pte Limited (NatSteel) to comprehensively modernize the finger shaft electric arc furnace in its Singapore Works.

The project involves installing a new FAST (furnace advanced slag free tapping) system, renewing the furnace shaft and the lower shell, and bringing the automation of the arc and ladle furnace up to the state of the art.

This will increase productivity and reduce the specific power requirement of the furnace even further. Commissioning is planned for March 2013.

Siemens supplied the 80 tonne finger shaft furnace currently run by NatSteel in Singapore. The furnace has a round bottom tap and a maximum input power of 56 MVA. This furnace is already achieving consumption figures of less than 290 kilowatt hours per tonne of steel, which makes it one of the most efficient furnaces in the world.

In order to increase the productivity of the furnace and even further reduce the specific energy requirement, Siemens will install new mechanical equipment based on the Simetal EAF Quantum solution platform specially developed for electric arc furnaces, and new automation equipment. The main feature of the furnace modernization will be the installation of the FAST system, as well as a new anode. The lower shell of the furnace will also be adapted, and the opportunity will be taken to automate the plugging of the tap hole. The FAST system helps to reduce the tap to tap time, and so increase productivity by around 6%. At the same time, the specific energy input falls by some five kilowatt hours per tonne.

The furnace shaft will also be modernized and the off gas ducting improved, which will minimize pressure loss. An integrated dust precipitation chamber below the furnace platform will reduce the cost of cleansing and make working safer. The scrap bucket will be positioned fully automatically in future. The project also includes upgrading the basic automation of the ladle furnace in the Singapore steel works from Simatic S5 to Simatic S7. Siemens will also be responsible for supervision services during installation and commissioning of all the new equipment.

Enorm veel publikaties over Siemens vandaag omdat ze met cijfers en verwachtingen zijn gekomen, vanmorgen. Opvallend was/is de wat negatieve ondertoon, maar blijkbaar zien de beleggers toch niog genoer lichtpuntjes want de koers is toch ruim anderhalf procent in de plus.
Over diverse onderdelen van Siemens zijn opmerkingen gemaakt. Interessant is onderstaande, passend bij pioniers.

Verder geen woord over hun vroegere fraudes en de afhandeling daarvan.

Speciaal voor Jeroen: heeft ook weinig zin. Het leven gaat door en als belegger steeds maar weer op die fraudes letten betekent werkelijk dat je.....NERGENS meer je geld in kunt steken. Niet één bedrijf is zonder fraude, is procesvrij. Dat hoort blijkbaar bij het wezen van ieder Europees bedrijf. Het wordt hier in de KK terecht aangeklaagd door postings van Hans/Voda en Jojo. Ik neem ze voor kennisgeving aan...maar moet wel verdergaan met beleggen....

Siemens: Probleme bei Windparks typisch für Pionierprojekte

MÜNCHEN (dpa-AFX) - Der Elektrokonzern Siemens sieht die teuren Probleme bei der Anbindung von vier Nordsee-Windparks als typisch für Pionierprojekte. "Projektkorrekturen einer solchen Größenordnung sind schmerzlich", sagte Vorstandschef Peter Löscher am Mittwoch in einer Telefonkonferenz. Sie seien aber üblich bei Vorstößen in Neuland. Siemens hinkt bei der Anbindung der Windparks vor Helgoland und Borkum ans deutsche Stromnetz dem Zeitplan weit hinterher und hat deshalb mittlerweile rund 478 Millionen Euro in den Wind geschrieben. Wegen der Misere hat Siemens kürzlich den zuständigen Manager abgelöst.

Die Windkraftplattformen seien fünfmal weiter vom Festland entfernt, doppelt so leistungsfähig und fünfmal so schwer wie die bisher vor den Küsten von Großbritannien errichteten Plattformen, betonte Löscher. Witterungsbedingungen und komplexe Genehmigungsprozesse erschwerten die Projekte zusätzlich. "So muss jede einzelne Schweißnaht einer Übertragungs-Plattform ausführlich dokumentiert und geprüft werden", klagte Löscher. Auch die Behörden stießen dabei in neue Bereiche vor. "Es ist zum Beispiel immer noch nicht abschließend geklärt, ob bei Plattformen dieser Größe Regularien für Schiffe oder Ölplattformen anzuwenden sind." Siemens habe aber mittlerweile ein klares Bild von der Situation und sei dabei die Probleme zu lösen./stb/stk

Siemens AG announces Q2 FY 2012 financial results

Siemens AG has announces financial Highlights for the second quarter of fiscal 2012.

Financial Highlights:

Revenue for the second quarter rose by 9% YoY to EUR 19.297 billion, including increases in all Sectors and reporting regions as well as 11% growth in emerging markets

Orders came in at EUR 17.880 billion, 13% below the prior year period which included a significantly higher volume from large orders, particularly in emerging markets. The book to bill ratio for the quarter was 0.93 and the order backlog was EUR 100 billion

Total Sectors profit was EUR 1.929 billion, a strong increase from the first quarter of fiscal 2012 but well below the prior year period which benefited from a EUR 1.520 billion gain from the divestment of Siemens' stake in Areva NP (Areva). Total Sectors profit in the current period included charges of EUR 278 million in the power transmission business

Income from continuing operations was EUR 1.053 billion, held back by an equity investment loss of EUR 640 million resulting from restructuring at Nokia Siemens Networks BV. In contrast, the prior year period benefited from the Areva gain mentioned above

Free cash flow from continuing operations was up year over year, at EUR 446 million, on higher cash flows in the Sectors

Mr Peter Löscher president & CEO of Siemens AG said that "As expected, the second quarter was not easy. While we achieved clear growth in revenue, orders came in below the prior year due to lower volume from large orders. For fiscal 2012, we are on course to achieve our goals for revenue and orders. Profit for the quarter was below our expectation due to charges at power transmission projects in Germany. We are addressing the problems systematically."
