Siemens to expand Batou rail mill

Baotou Iron & Steel (Group) Co Ltd a Chinese steel producer, has awarded Siemens Metals Technologies an order for the supply of a new facility for the inline thermal treatment of heavy duty rails, to be installed in one of the two company's long product rolling mills in Baotou, Inner Mongolia.

This will include the world's first application of an advanced technology for rail hardening, which has been jointly developed by Siemens and the Italian technical center, Centro Sviluppo Materiali SpA.

This “Injector Dual-phase Rail Hardening” system named Idrha+ enables rails to be produced with improved resistance to contact fatigue and wear. The new inline system will also be able to optimize the rail product performances according to the different grades of steel, which may be processed reliably and flexibly. It is scheduled to be commissioned at the beginning of 2014.

Baotou has a total long product rolling capacity of 2.1 million tonnes per annum. The Idrha+ system will be installed in a rail rolling line which has a 400,000 tonnes yearly capacity and rolls various sizes and shapes of rail, including asymmetric rails, in special steel grades with carbon contents ranging from 0.6 to 0.8%. The maximum hourly productivity is 150 tons of rails up to 104 meters in length.

The design of the Idrha+ system from Siemens and CSM, which will be used on the rail rolling line commercially for the first time, is based on thermomechanical and metallurgical process models, and validated by experimental trials in pilot plants. The final rail product performances are in accordance with the Chinese standards in terms of hardness, while the resistance to both contact fatigue and wear is improved. It also allows the simulation of various cooling strategies for different grades of rail steel prior to the start of production. This enables run-up times to be reduced, nominal capacity to be attained more quickly and relevant performance parameters to be fulfilled consistently and reliably.

Within the project, Siemens is responsible for the entire process technology, and for engineering its own deliveries as well as the equipment to be provided by the customer. The scope of delivery from Siemens includes the induction furnace, a highly flexible quenching line, and closed-loop process automation. Siemens will also support installation and commissioning. The delivery scope also includes the joint development and definition of new rail steel grades with Baotou Iron and Steel, as well as assistance with grade certification for the international market.

Siemens wins Toyota order for substations

The low and medium voltage divisions of the Siemens infrastructure & cities sector has been awarded an order by Toyota Tsusho Corporation to build 24 transformer substations for the Ministry of Electricity in Iraq.

Siemens will build the turnkey substations in ten Iraqi provinces to help upgrade the power supply in the country. The order has a volume of EUR 62.1 million. Iraq still faces major challenges in the modernisation of its infrastructure. Along with the supply of clean drinking water, providing the population with a stable supply of energy is one of the most urgent problems.

This applies in particular to hot days when air conditioning units and refrigerators throughout the country are running non-stop and consume a large proportion of the available energy.

According to a study conducted by the International Energy Agency, although nearly 96 per cent of the country’s inhabitants are connected to the electricity grid, the supply is restricted in some areas to only a few hours a day. The population, the service sector and industry all compete for the scarce supply of energy, which acts as a barrier to investment by the private sector. 55% of the total demand for electricity in Iraq was met in 2011.

Mr Joerg Scheifler CEO of Siemens Infrastructure and Cities Sector in the Middle East said that “The country had suffered from a significant reduction in its power supply and there is a pressing need to also add distribution capacity to the grid. We are very pleased to have won this contract and hope it will facilitate better living conditions for many Iraqis, as a basic need such as uninterrupted electricity supply becomes available to a wider section of the population.”

The order comprises delivery of all components as well as civil and installation works including the connection of the substations to the grid. The delivery package contains 33 and 11kV medium voltage switchgear, 0,4kV low voltage switchgear as well as the transformers. The project is being managed from Turkey and the products will be shipped from Europe and Turkey.

Mr Ralf Christian CEO of the Siemens low and medium voltage division said that “These substations will help make the power supply in Iraq safer and more reliable. Upgrading the energy infrastructure will support Iraq in its economic and social development.”

Siemens AG 14:22

EUR 83,81+0,21(+0,25%)

Siemens AG to drive Osram Licht AG spinoff

An action has been brought against the resolution of the Annual Shareholders Meeting authorizing the spinoff and acquisition agreement between Siemens AG and Osram Licht AG. Siemens considers the action to be without merit and will rigorously drive the planned spinoff and public listing of Osram Licht AG.

Mr Joe Kaeser CFO of Siemens AG said that "By an overwhelming majority of over 98%, Siemens' shareholders gave us a clear mandate at the Annual Shareholders' Meeting at the end of January, to list Osram on the stock exchange via a spinoff. In the interest of our shareholders, we will carry out this mandate diligently and reliably."

The spinoff will not take effect until it has been entered into the German Commercial Registers in Berlin and Munich. The action for annulment and voidance will block this registration for the time being. Yesterday, as part of a so-called judicial release procedure, Siemens filed a motion with the Munich Higher Regional Court to remove this blocking effect so that despite the action it may be possible for the spinoff to be immediately entered into the Commercial Registers.

However, it will not be possible to publicly list Osram in April.

Siemens: voorlopig geen economische opleving

Gepubliceerd op 10 apr 2013 om 09:58 | Views: 1.582

Siemens AG 16:10

EUR 81,69+0,71(+0,87%)

Siemens wil tegen 2014 in totaal 6 miljard euro besparen.

Siemens verlaagt winstverwachting ondanks toename orders
